The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the minutes
of the pr~ous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
At this time the Clerk announced that he had lids on his desk for
the g~anting of an Electric Street Railway franchise.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the City
Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried.
At this time the Clerk read the blids for the granting of an
Electric Street Railway franchise, only one bid from the Los Angeles
Transit Lines being received.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the bid of
the Los Angeles Transit Lines be accepted. Motion carried.
Communication from and report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief
on bids for the furnishing of two bodies to be built on chassis owned by
the City of Vernon, with his recommendmation that the bid of the Aluminum
Body Corporation be acc~pted, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu-
nication and report be filed an~ the recommendation of the Fire Chief
concurred in, and tha~ the City Attorney be instructed to draw a contract
between the City of Vernon and the Aluminum Body Corporation. Motion carried.
Acceptance by Southern California Gas Company of Franchise
Ordinance No. 601, was read. .
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the acceptance
be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Southern California Gas Company submitting
Franchise Bond in amount of $1000.00, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communication
be filed. Motion carried.
Communicat;ion from Southern Pacific Company in regard to additional
track across 25th Street, was read.
It was moved by FuDbng, seconded by Anderson, that the communication
be filed. Motion carried.
An order of the Public Utilities Commission authorizing the Los
Angeles Junction Railway Company to construct one spur track across Boyle
Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the order be
filed. Motion carried.

Communication from Alfred Jones~ County Engineer for the County
of Los Angeles regarding vllste water connection into Hooper Avenue Drainage
System by the Flintkote Company, Pioneer Division, and California-Oregon
Paper Mill Container Corpora.tion of America, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nication be filed and the matter referred tothe City Engineer and City At-
torney. Motion carried.
Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations of elec-
tria system ;by the Southern California Edison Co. for month of March, 1947
was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Communiaation from Newcomb & Co., insurance agents and brokers,
regarding sprinkler system connection for the Rose FoodS, Inc. was read.
It wa.s moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the communica-
tion be filed and matter referred to City Engineer for report. Motion ca.r~ied.
Communication from Vernon Post 338, American Legion, requesting per-
mit to sell poppies in the City on May 23rd and 24th, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Fred V. Keenan, Chairman Public Relations Com-
mittee, Kiwanis Club of Vernon, California" requesting permission to place
Signs at S.W.comer of Santa Fe Ave. at 26th St. BE corner vernon Ave. and'
Alameda St. BE corner Leonis Blvd. at Pacific Blvd. SW corner Boto St. at
26th st. East side of Boto St. at 56th St. East side of Santa Fe Ave. at 57th st.
and Leonis Blvd. at Loma Vista Ave. was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the communication
be filed and approved, subject to Police Department designating spots where
Signs should be placed. Motion carried.
Communication from E. C. Livingston Co. requesting permit to operate
a prefabricated steel building business at 3900 E. Washington Blvd. vas read.
It was moved by Furlong" seconded by Mailliard" that the communica-
tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from W. C Looney requesting permit to sell lumches
within the City, vas read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communication
be filed and the matter referred to the Police Depart~e.t. Motion carried.
Communication from Anthony J. LaTone requesting permit to sell ice
cream vithin the city, was read.
It vas moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the eommWlica-
tion be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication from General Petroleum Corp. requesting a cross-walt
painted at 2525 East 37th Street" vas read.
It vas moved by Furlong" seconded by Anderson" that the communica-
tion be filed and matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.

Petition by the Atchison, Topeka. & Santa Fe Railway Company
for two tracks across 49th Street, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Furlong, that the ))etition
be filed and the matter referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from Norris Stamping Company for permit to haul
refuse from premises at 5215 So. Boyle Avenue was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by An.erson, that the communication
be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communica~ion from Acosta Core Vorks requesting permit to conduct
the business of making sand cores for use in foundry castings at 2316 East
52nd Street, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by .An.derson, that the commu-
nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by An.derson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building,
Purchasing and Library was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Cammunica~ion from the County Grand Jury addressed to Ernest
Giles commending the Chief upon taking such excellent care of the jail
as to cleanliness, etc. was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Furlong, that the communica-
tion be filed. Motion carried.
At this time Councilman Furlong referred to the application for
franchise of the Southern Pacific Railway for additional tracks across 25th street,
which had been submitted at the last meeting, wherein the City Engineer
recommends that the franchise be denied, as it would be detrimental to the
City and its inh~n-bitants to have additional tracks crossing 25th Street,
and recommended, that the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the application
be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion
carried.
