MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CI'I'Y OF VERNON CI'I'Y COUNCIL HELD ON

OFFICE, OF THE CI'I'Y COUNCIL, 4305

The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the minutes
of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer, and City Attorney, in re-
gard to disposal of industrial waste-water by Flintkote Company - Pioneer
Division and California-Oregon Paper Mills into Los Angeles City and Los
Angeles County storm drans, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nication be filed and approved. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer on application of Atchison,
Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company for franchise to construct two additional
yard tracks across 49th Street westerly of Hampton Street, was read. The City
Engineer recommends the request be granted, provided the Railway Company
agrees to remove the track, including all cross-ties, switches, etc., in
46th street.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communica-
tion be filed and request granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Engineer, in regard to letter of New-
comb & Company, Insurance Brokers, complaining of slowness with installation
of 8 inch fire service for the Rose Foods, Inc. was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi-
cation be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Superior Roofing Co. requesting permit to
conduct a business of Roofing Contractor at 2057 E. 37th St. was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu-
nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Albert La,iken requesting permit to operate a
lunch route within the city, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by z~nderson, that the communica-
tion be filed and the ~tter referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication from Dock Miller requesting permit to operate a lunch
route within the City, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the communi-
cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication from Percival Steel & Supply Co. requesting curb
painting at 4~6e Banta Fe Avenue, was read.

nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Commynication from Demco Tool Company requesting curb painting at
2053 E. 38th S~reet, was read
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication from System Stamping Service requensting curb paint-
ing in froat of warehouse entrance on Alcoa Avenue north of Slauson Avenue
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communica-
tion be filed and matter referred to Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from E. Giles, Chief of Police, submitting vacation
list for Police Department personnel, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the communica-
tion be filed and matter approved. Motion carried.
Communication from Olympic Truck & Equipment Sales Requesting permit
to conduct the business of selling used trucks and trailers at2028 and 2090 E.
25thStreet, was read.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Mailliard, that the communi7
cation be filed and permit granted subject to approval of Police Department.
Motion carried.
Report of Police Department was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, furchas-
ing and Library was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 608, An Ordinance granting an electric street rail-
way franchise to the Los Angeles Transit lines, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Ordinance
No. 608 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
ORDINANCE NO. 609, an Ordinance granting a franchise to the Atchi-
son, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company to construct, maintain, and operate
two railway storage tracks across 49th street, was read for first reading.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that Ordinance
No: 609, be passed for ~irst reading. Motion carried.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the City
Engineer be instructed to make an investigation as to the amount of sewage
disposal by Acme Brewing Company into the City sewers. Motion carried.
At this time Arthur F. A&ar addressed the City Council in reference

to putting street signals on Alameda street and requested the City Council
to agree with the proposition submitted by him.
It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that the matter
referred to by Mr. Agar be referred to the City Engineer for study and
report. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1341, a Resolution correcting minutes of December
3, 1946, was read.
It was moved by Anderson., seconded by Furlong, that Resolution
No. 13~1 be adopted. Motion carried.
