The Mayor of the City being absentl the City Clerk called the meeting to order and requested that a Mayor pro tem be elected for the meeting. It was moved by Andersonl seconded by Mailliardl that Councilman Furlong act as Mayor Pro Tem. Motion carried. The Mayor pro tem then called the meeting to order. It was moved by Trowbridgel seconded by Andersonl that the' minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.. Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, recommending acceptance of one pumping unit from LapJ.e & Bowler Corp. per contract dated February 181 19471 for well 50. 6, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communication be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. l34~, a Resolution approving the acceptance of one pumping unit from Layne & Bowler Corporation, as per contract of February 18, 1947 for well 50. 6, was read. . It was moved by Trowbridge 1 seconded by Andersonl that Resolution No. 1344 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication fram the City Engineer requesting authority to dis- pose of old electric motor air compressor to Industrial Salvage & Machinery Co. for the sum of $160.00, was read. . It was moved by Trowbridgel seconed by Anderson, that the communica- tion be filed and that the City Engineer accept the bid. Motion carried. Communication and report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, on applica- tion of Reed of California, Inc. for per.mit to manufacture upholstered furni- ture at 4424 East 49th Street, was read. The Fire chief recommended that the per.mit be granted. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communic- ation and report be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Copy of application submitted by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, attorneys in regard to granting per.mission to increase and adjust certain fares for transportation by Los Angeles Transit Lines, Yas read. , It was moved by Mailliard, seconded'by Anderson, that the application be filed and the matter referred to the 'City Attorney. Motion can!led. Communication from Maxwell Associates, Inc. requesting a license to conduct a business as War Assets Administration Agents at 2801 Santa Fe Avenue was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliardl that the communi- cation be filed and per.mit granted. It was moved by hilliard, seconded by Anderson, that the communi- cation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication .from Edwin M. Faris, requesting permit to operate Richfiled Gas Station at 5220 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication .from Roy E. Parker requesting permit to sell lunches within the city, with letter of Levine Cooperage Attached, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be fil_d and the matter referred to the POlice Department. Motion carried. . Communication .from MacGlashan Air Machine Gun Co. requesting curb painting at 4615 H8JIlpton Street, was read.
