19470805 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON AUGUST 5, 1947 AT 2:00 P.M. IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE C OUNC ILMEN PRESENT: COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Leonis, Trowbridge, Anderson and Furlong Mailliard The meeting was called to order by Mayor J.B. Leonis. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer, reporting on amount of waste water discharged by Acme Brewing Company into Vernon City Sanitary Sewers was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to- gether with resolution attached declaring Downey Boad within the City of Vernon to be a part of the County system of highways and requesting consent to its improvement by the County,was read. It was moved that the communication be filed and resolution approved. Moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1346, a resolution consenting to and approving the acts of the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County, California, in adopting a resolution declaring Downey Road within the City of Vernon, as part of the County System of Highways of said Los Angeles County, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution No. 1346 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles County Board of Su~ervisors together with resoltuion attached authorizing an appropriation of ~1876.oo for survey and preparation of plans for improvement of portion of Washington Boulevard within the city of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Furlong, that the communica- tion be filed, and matter approved. Motion carried. Application of Southern California Edison Company for franchise on portions of Soto Street, Alcoa Avenue and Slauson Avenue, was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that the applica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Vernon Industrial Development Association. Motion carried. '" Communication from City of Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners together with report of R. T. Dorsey, Traffic Engineer regarding boulevard stop signs facing northbound traffic on the westerly roadway of Alameda St. at 55th Street, was read. It was moved byFurlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication and recommendation of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, for the acceptance of two GMC Chassis delivered to the Fire Department, was read. 1. 13 It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and recommendation concurred in. Motion carried. Communication and recommendation of F. H. Donnely, Fire Chief, for the acceptance of Motor Truck Chassis delivered by Mack-International Motor Truck Corp. to Fire Department, was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and recommendation concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from Paul w. Wood Company requesting permit to conduct a business of warehousing paint raw materials and chemicals at Northeast corner of Gifford Avenue and East 49th Street in the Cantral Manufacturing District, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Chief for report. Motion carried. Communication from Allan Klapper requesting permit to conduct a business of proeessing marine electric cable at 5109 District Blvd. was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communi- cation be filed and matter referred to the Police Department and Electrical Engineer. Motion carried. Communication from Pioneer Guard Service requesting permit to place two guards at the Rexall Warehouse, Fruitland Ave. and Soto Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Furlong, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from D. A. Doane Truck Co. requesting permit to conduct a trucking business at 2575 Grande Vista Evenue, was read.. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Swell Time Ice Cream Corp. requesting permit to operate one truck for the serving of icecream within the city, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Harry F. Newberry, 4812 Compton Avenue, request- ing the inspection of Recreation Building of E. K. Wood Lumber Co. for the installation of kitchen to serve employees, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Furlong, that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referr.ed to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Yeomans Sheet Metal Works requesting curb paint- ing at 240gl0 E. 57th Street, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation .be filed and matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Wilshire Oil Company requesting permit to haul refuse from premises at 2611 East 27th Street and 2600 E. 28th Street upon and along the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. Burning will be under supervision of their employees, with proper water facilities to control the burning.
