19470916 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF TEE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CrTY OF VERNON HELD ON SEPTEMBER 16, 1947 AT 2:00 P. M. IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, 4~05 SANTA FE AVENUE COUNCILMEN PRESENT: COUNCILMEN ABSENT: LEONIS, ANDERSON, TROWBRIDGE AND MAILLIARD FURLONG The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. B. Leonis. It was moved by Anderson, sedonded by Trowbridge, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. Communiation from the City Engineer, regarding sewer constructed by Wm. Carter, Jr., in property on south side Leonis Blvd. was read. The City Engineer recommended that Wm. Carter, Jr. be reimbursed for construct- ion cost of sewer ($1490.13) from M.I.D.#2 construction fund upon receiv- ing of all private rights, title and interest in sewer. It was moved by Trpwbridge,seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer requesting approval of part time employment of Mr. J. V. Lewis, an electr'ician in employ of South- ern California Edison Co. for maintenance work on city'S traffic signals, was read. Approval is requested as of september 13, 1947 at the rate of $2. per hour. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu - nication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from Regional Planning Commission of the County of Los Angeles requesting approval of Master Plan of Freeways in the County of Los Angeles, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed. Motion carried. Report of Union Oil Company on Franchise No. 585, for period ending June 30, 1947, was read. Check in amount of $69.54 was attached. It was moved by Me.illiard, seconded by TrOWbridge, that the report be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Communication from Ar.astrong Engineering Co. requesting permit to conduct a business of marketing gasoline dispensing equipment at 4615 Hampton Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Tea~ Iron & Metal Company requesting permit to conduct a business of used machinery and metal supply at 3700 E. 26th St. was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and :referred to'Police Department. ,Motion carried. Motion carried. Communication from Real Transportation Co. requesting permit to conduct a truck transportation business at 4641 Hampton Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Matthews Plumbing Company requesting a permit to conduct a commercial plumbing Business at 2106 East 37th St. was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Joseph Forrazzo requesting permit to sell lunches within the city, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the com- mun~cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Consolidated Metals Corp. requesting curb painting at 2619 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Technical Broaching Company r~questing curb painting at 4615-17 Hampton Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Depart~ent. Motion carried. Communication from American Can Company requesting curb painting at 2231 East 49th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department.' Motion carried. Communication from Mrs. H. A. Odin requesting that a double white line be painted on Slauson Avenue from State Street to Maywood, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the com- munication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Fibreboard Products, Inc. requesting permit to haul refuse from 4444 Pacific Boulevard, along and upon the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the com- munication be filed and pernut granted. Motion carried. Communication from Arrowhead Rubber Co. requesting permit to haul refuse from 2244 East 37tll street, along and upon the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the com- munication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
