B. Leonis. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Anderson, that the minutes of.' the prev,ious meeting be approved. Motion carried. Bid of Southern Calif.'ornia Edison Co. for franchise to alter, con- struct, mainta~ and operate electric transmission and distribution lines along portion of Soto Street, Slauson Avenue and Alcoa Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and the bid accepted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION l3~4, a Resolution of the City Council of.' the City of' Vernon by which there is struck off, sold and awarded by said City Council to Southern California Edison Co. a franchise f'or the period beginning on the date of the granting of such franchise and ending on the 4th day of 'May, 1987, to construc~, operate, alter, maintain and use an electric distribu- tion and transmission system consistin~ of poles, cross-arms, conduits, cables, wires and other appurtenances lother than towers) on, along, upon, in, under and across certain streets, alleys, public highways and public places within the City of Vernon, namely, Soto street, from Leonis Avenue (48th Street) to the south boundary line of said City: Slauson Avenue from approximately 70 feet wes~ of Alcoa Avenue east to approximately 600 feet west of Downey Road; Alcoa Avenue from 70 feet north of Slauson Avenue, south to the south ,end of Alcoa Avenue, and to use and operate such system solely for the purpose of' distributing electricity within the City of.' Vernon to the City itself and to the Los Angeles Transit Lines, its successors or assigns, f.'or railway purposes only, and to the Bethlehem Steel Corp. its successors or assigns, and its steel plant at the corner of Alcoa Avenue and Slauson Avenue in said City of Vernon, and to transmit electricity through the City of' Vernon to serve communities and consumers outside the City of Vernon, and for telephone circuits on said portions of said streets incidentally useful or convenient ~ connection with the operation of' said transmission and distribution system, was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution No. 1354 be adopted. Motion carried. ORDIlfANCE No. 611, an ordinance of the City of Vernon, granting to Southern California Edison Company, a corporation organized and existing under and by virtue of the laws of the State of California, a franchise for a period beginning on the date of this Ordinance and ending on the 4th day of.' Communication from the City Engineer, recommending that the name of Fruitland Road between Santa Fe Avenue and Downey Road be changed to Fruitland Avenue, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the communi-' cation be filed and the recommendation approved. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer submitting a deed from Warner &: Swasey Corp~ and William Carter, Jr., and Minnie K. Carter, for sewer purposes, also recommendation that William Carter, Jr. be reimbursed for construction expenditures in the amount of $1490.13, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communi- cation be filed and recommendation concurred in. Motion carried. Communication from the City En~ineer submitting proposed improvement of first alley east of Santa Fe Avenue (Violet Alley) between 30th street and 31th street, was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation be filed and the action of the City Engineer approved. Motion carried. Communication from County of Los Angeles Road Department in regard to traffic congestion on Santa Fe Avenue between 51th Street and 58th Street, was read. It was moved by Furlong, seconded by Ande:.son, that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the City Engineer and the Police Depart- ment. Motion carried. Communication and report of F. H. Donelly, Fire Chief, on request of Woerz Paste and Gum Company requesting a permit to conduct and operate an adhesive manUfacturing business on Lots 12 to 19 incl. Block J, Day Star Tract, was read. (The Fire Chief recomends that the permit be granted). It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from R. J. Kimbrough requesting a permit to conduct a sales yard to be known as the L. A. Horse and Mule Auction, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Furlong, that the communica- tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from The Glidden Company requesting permit to conduct a warehouse at 4255 No. Produce Plaza, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconde4 by Anderson, that the communi- cation be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
