19480106 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON JANUARY 6, 1948 AT 2:00 PM IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, 4 304 SANTA FE A VEND, VERNON COUNCILMEN PRESENT: COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Furlong, Anderson, Mailliard and Trowbridge Leonis THE Mayor of the City being absent, the City Clerk called the meeting to order and requested that a Mayor Pro Tem be elected for the meeting. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that Council- man Furlong act as Ymyor Pro Tem. Motion carried. The Mayor Pro Tem then called the meeting to order. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried. At this time the Clerk announced that he had bids on his desk for sewer work on Leonis Boulevard, in the CitJ1' of Vernon. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the City Clerk proceed to open the bids. Motion carried. At this time the Clerk read the following bids for the sewer work to be done on LeonisBoulevard: Milosevich & Zarubica Construction Co., A. R. Milosevich & Son, Ivan M. Metkovich, George Miller, Chorak Construction Co. and Beason & Taylor. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded my Mailliard, that the tids be filed and referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Motion ca.rried. Communication from Southern California Edison Co. submitting ac- ceptance of Franchise Ordinance No. 611, adopted and granted on December 2, 1947, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation be filed. Motion carried. Report of General Petroleum Corporation on Franchise Ordinances No. 80, 299 and 532 for period ending October 31, 1947 together with check in the sum of $56.93 (check spbmitted for period ending oct. 31,1946 in the amount if $51.75), was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed and check accepted. Motion carried. Communication from Compressed Gas Cylinders, Inc., requesting permit to conduct the business of manufacturing and selling low pressure petroleum gas cylunders at 2909 E. 54th Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the communica- tion be filed and the matter referred to the Fire Chief for approval. Motion carried. Communication from Richard T. Wills requesting permit to conduct and operate a tire repair and recapping shop at 2004 E. Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communi- cation be filed a.nd permit granted. Motion carried. t 1. Communication from Frank's Service Station requesting permit to distribute announcement cards from 5220 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Air Reduction Sales Company requesting per- mission to place chain link fence on property line at 5600 Bickett Street and not on a five-foot set back, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Pacific Abrasive Supply Company complaining of nuisance committed by pigeons which infest their building at 5050 Pacific Boulevard, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nica,tion be filed. Motion carried. Communication from State Department of Public Health regarding a public hearing on Je~uary 23, 1948 at 217 west 1st St., to consider re- visionsof regulations setting minimum standards and qualifications for admission to examination as registered sanitarian, was read. , It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. Communication from County Engineer in regard to violations of County Ordinance 614 N.S. (Industrial Waste Ordinance), was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. Report of tpe Police Department was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Pur- chasing and Library, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Whiting Mead Co., requesting curb painting in fron of their store at 2263 East vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and matt tel' referred to the police Department. Motion ca.rried.
