M. ilr THE OFFICE OF THE CITY coucn . 4305 Santa Fe Ave. Furlong, Leonis, Anderson, Mailliard and Trowbridge None The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong. '- It Was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the minutes of the previOUS meeting be approved. Motion carried. At this time the Clerk announced that he had bids on his desk for one panel truck for the,fire Department. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge~ that the City Clerk proveed to open the bids. Motion carried. At this time the Clerk read the following bids for one Panel Truck for the fire Department: E. H. Hilton; King Motor Company, International Harvester Company, and GMC Truok & Coach Division (General Motors Corp.) It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge~ that the bids be filed and referred to the Fire Chief for checking and report. Motion carried. Communioation from the City Engineer requesting authority to employ Mr.Alfred R. Butterfield as instrument man and field engineer at the rate of $275.00 per month, effective May 7~ 1948~ was read. It was moved by Leonis~ seconded by Anderson, that the communication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communioationfrom the City Engineer~ regarding aewer stoppage in Vernon Avenue caused by Luer Packing Company, Merohants Packing Company, . Union Packing Company, United Dressed Beef Company. Clougherty Bros., and Cornelius Bros., was~read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seoonded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed. Motion oarried. Report and communication from Carl A. Heinze on Partial Releases and Conveyance of Southern California Edison Co., was read. (Referred to Consulting Electrical Engineer on May 4, 1948.) It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Anderson, that the report and communication be approved and filed. Motion carried. An order extending time from the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California in the-matter of protection at certain grade crossings in Alameda Street~ was read. (Time extended to Jume 16, 1948 for filing a copy of proposed agreement.) It was moved by Anderson~seconded by Trowbridge, that communication be filed. Motion carried. Franchise report submitted by Pacific Telephohe & Telegraph Company on Franchise Ordinance No. 108 for period ending April 22, 1948~ was read. (Report states amount due for period ending Aprill 22, 1948 will be $19,674.62 amount paid in 1947 waS $16,398.40). It was moved by Trowbridge~ seconded by Mail1iard, that same be ac- cepted and filed. Motion carried. 1....." ... .50 1. Communication from Korhumel-Heffron & Preiss Steel Co. requesting permit to operate a warehouse at 2855-57 East 50th Street, was read. . It vas moved by Leonis, seconded by Anderson, that the communica- . tion be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Ideal Milk Service requesting permit to operate milk vending machines at General Petroleum Corp. Brunswig Drug Co. Wire & Metal Mfg. Co. and Meyer & Welch Co., was read. It was moved by Leonis, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Health Department. Motion carried. Communication from Willis Catering Co. 2147 E. 49th St., ~equesting permit to operate catering truck within the city, was read. It was moved by Mailliared, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Stanley Sirota requesting license to represent LeRoy Jewelry Co. store within the city, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be riled and request denied. Motion carried. Communication rrom Plant Rubber & Asbestos Works requesting curb painting at 2120 E. 25th Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Leonis, that the communi- cation be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communications from Morris Metal Products Co. and Norros Stamping & Mrg. Co. requesting permits to haul refuse from their respeotive premises . along and upon the streets or the City or Vernon, were read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nioations be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Report of C. A Heinze, Consulting Electrical Engineer on operations of electrical system by.SouthBrn California Edison Co. for the month of March, 1948, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. . Report or the Police Department was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Report or the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchasing and Library was.,read. Steelman as chainman at the rate of $175.00 per month effective May 20, 1948, was read. (Mr. Steelman replaces Mr. Don Matties who left the city's service on May 15th.) It was moved by ~rowbridge, seonced by Mailliard, that the oommu- nication be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communiation from the City Engineer, requesting authority to change rat~g of Paul B. McKiernan from Junior Draftsman to Draftsman, also increase in salary from $200.00 per month to $250.00 per month effective May l, 1948 was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by ~rowbridge, that the co:mm~ca- tion be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from the Fire Department for permission to purchase two electric refrigerators for the Fire Department, as the old ones are completely worn out, was read. This request was previously approved by the Police and Fire commission. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by ~rowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Comm~ication from the Chief of the Fire Department request~g the City Council to oreate the office of Battalion Chief and appoint Lester C. Husted to said office, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seoonded by ~rovbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the request granted, and the City Attorne~ be author- ized to draw the necessary resolution and present same at the next meeting. Motion carried.
