MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD ON June I" 1948 at 2:00 PM
IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL

COUNCIL MEN PRESENT: Furlong Anderson and Trowbridge
COUNCILMEN ABSENT:
Mailliard and Leonis
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson" seconded by Trowbridge" that the minutes
of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.
At this time the City Clerk announced that this was the time and
place for the approval or rejection of the report of the City Enginee~ pursu-
ant to Special Assessment Investigation" Limitation and Majority Protest Act
of 1931" of the State of California.
It was moved by Anderson" seconded by Trowbridge that the hearing
of the report of the City Engineer as above stated shall be continaed until
June 15" 1948. Motion carried.
Communiation from and report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief" on
bids received for the furnishing of panel truck for fire alarm maintenance
was read. F. H. Donnelly recommends that the bid of GMC TruQk & Coach
Division of General Motors Corporation be accepted.
It was moved by Trowbridge" seconded by Anderson" that the commu-
nication and report be filed and the recommendation of the Fire Chief con';::
curred in. Motion carried.
Communication flrom M. Gottlieb requesting permit to conduct a china
decorating business at 3015 East 25th Street" was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge" seconded by Anderson" that the commu-
nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Sterling Meat Co. requesting curb painting at
2501 E. Vernon Avenue" was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge" that the communi-
cation be filed and matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Boulevard Transportation Co. requesting curb paint-
ing on 46th Street west of Soto Street" was read.
It was moved by Anderson" seconded by Trowbridge" that the communica-
tion be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Owens Illinois Glass Co. requesting curb painting
in Fruitland Avenue east of Soto Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson" seconded by Trowbridge, that the communica-
tion be filed and matter referred to Police Department. Motion cartied.
Communication from Gorman & Company requesting that some traffic con-
trol measure be installed at 55th & Santa Fe Avenue" was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge" seconded by Anderson" that the communica-
tion be filed and matter referred to Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Compressed Gas Cylinders" Inc." requesting permit
to haul refuse from 2909 E. 54th Streets" along and upon the streets of the
City of Vernon" was read.

It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nicationbe filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Fred Hurley of Water & Power Department
requesting vacation leave starting August 19, 1948, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu-
nicatioh be filed and request granted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1382, a Resolution of the City Council of the City
of Vernon Fixing the Number of Employees of the Fire Department of waid city,
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution
No. 1382, be adopted. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchas-
ing and Library was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motion carried.
Councilmen Anderson at this time requested a leave of absence
. until Tuesday, July 6th.
It was moved and carried that the request of the said Councilman
Anderson be approved. Motion carried.

It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the appli-
cations be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
