COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Furlong, Anderson, Leonis and Trowbridge
COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Mailliard
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Leonis, that the minutes of
the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles County 80ard of Supervisors together
with a Resolution making available the amount of $112,485.00 for the ~-
provement of Boyle Avenue from Slauson to Leonis Ave., was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu-
nication be filed and offer accepted. Motion carried.
Communication and report of F.H. Donnelly, Fire Chief and E. Giles,
Police Chief, on application of United States Gypsum Company, requesting
information as to zoning and fire regulations in regard to property lo-
cated at 3876 Santa Fe Avenue (formerly occupied by Moore Machinery Co.)
and pDpposing to move their specialties department to that location, whch
consists of dry powder products, patching plaster, texture paints and glue
or casin base cements and water thinned paste paints, was read. F. H.
Donnelly and 'E. Giles report that their operations necessitate the grind-
ing of materials which create dust, and it is also necessary for them
to use certain amount of petroleum products and they recommend that the
permit be denied.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nication and report be filed and permit denied. Motion carried.
Communication from B. Wollman Metals, Inc. requesting 90- days time
or until January 15, 1949 to move their metal business from 3151 E.
Slauson Ave., into a proper zone, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seonced by Anderson, that the commu-
nication be filed and request granted. Motion carried.
Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operation of elec-
tric system by the Southern California Edison Co. for month of August, 1948
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report
be filed. Motioncarried.
Communications from William Paddison and Swift and Co. requesting
permits to move refuse from their respective premises along and upon the
streets of the City of Vernon, were read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu-
nications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
Communication from General Petroleum Corp. requesting re-painting
of pedestrian crossings at. 2419 and 2423 E. 28th Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the
communication be filed and matter referred to the Police Department.
Motion carried.

at 2445 E. 26th Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communica-
tion be ~iled and matter re~erred to Police Department. Motion carried.
COMMUNICATION from Vernon Kilns requesting curb painting at 2310
East 52nd Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communi-
cation be ~iled and matter re~erred to Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Modern Pattern & Foundry Co. requesting curb
painting at 5610 Alcoa Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the communica-
tion be ~iled and matter referred to Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication fro~ Consolidated Pacific Investment Co. requesting bond
under date of September 3, 1948 be returned as Bond under date of September
16, 1948 as filed, together with map of Subdivision of Tract No. 14256,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu-
nication be filed and matter re~erred to the City Clerk. Motion carried.
Report o~ the Police Department was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that report be
~iled. Motion carried.
Report o~ the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchas-
ing and Library, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Leonis, that the report be
filed. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION NO. 1406, a resolution ~ixing the name o~ 46th street,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that Resolutioa
No. 1406 be adopted. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION No. 1407, a resolution aproving Map o~ Tract No. 14256 ~
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that Resolution
No. 1407 be adopted. Motion carried. '
RESOLUTION No. 1408, a resolution approving bond ~iled by Con-
solidated Paci~ic Investment Co. was read.
