19481221 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF REGULAH MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON DECEMBER 21, 1948 AT 12:00 P. M. IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL, 4305 ~ANTA FE AVENUE COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Furlong, Mailliard and Trowbridge COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Leonis and Anderson The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong. It was moved by Mailliard., seconded by Trowbridge, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried. Connnunication from the City Engineer recommending the acceptance of fence construction by Southern Califnia Fence Company on property of Vernon Pumping Pla~t No. 2 and that payment in the sum of $4159.41 is now due, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the connnu- nication be filed and reconnnendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1417, a Resolution accepting the furnishing and construction of One fence in the City of Vernon at Pumping Plant #2, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution No. 1417 be adopted. Motion carried. Conrrnunication from the City Engineer recommending that $1200.00 be withheld frore Barber-Bridge Drilling Co. for the drilling of well #9 was read. The ity Clerk reconrrnended the acceptance upon this condition. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and the recommendation of the City Engineer concurred in. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1418, a Resolution accepting one 18" well, known as Well #9, located on Fruitland Avenue, apprOXimately 700' Westerly from Downey Road within the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution No. 1418 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from Vernon Industrial Development Association, together with copy of letter from Guthrie & Darling and partial release and conveyance from Southern California Edison Co. was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the connnu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the City Electrical Engineer. Motion carried. . Communication from the City Engineer requesting authority to have installed a 2500 lumen lamp in East 49th Street as requested by Acme Brewing Company, the monthly cost to be $2.17, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and approved. Motion carried. Communication and report from F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief~ on request of Byron Jackson Co. for permission to erect a tent on thelr prop- perty to hold a Chirstmas program on December 24th,W8S read. The Fire Chief recommends that the permit be issued as Byron Jackson Co. ~as as- sured the Fire Department that all State and local regulations wlll be complied with. 1. 006. t'WN' . An order extanding the time for completion of signal installations on Alameda Street by the Public Utilities Commission until March 12, 1949 was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the order be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Madsen Iron Works in regard to storm water 'in 54th Str~ and Bickett Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and matter referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. Report from General Petroleum Corp. on Franchise Ordinances. No. 80, 299 and 532 for period ending October 31, 1948 together with check in amount of $57.94 (check for period ending 10731/47 $56.93) was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Perm-Alloy requesting permit to conduct a pattern and die casting shop at 5511 So. Boyle Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication befiled and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from 1[. T Raleigh Company requesting a permit to 2.onduct a Wholesaling and Distribotion business of Health Products at 4707 East 49th Street, was read. ^ It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Mot,ion carried. Communication from Pacific Engine & Machine Co. requesting,permit to conduct a used and rebuilt machinery business at 2920 Santa Fe Avenue' was read. Communication from Einar Sorenson, requesting a permit to operate a machine shop at 5706 Santa Fe Avenue~ was read. Communication from Deitch Meat Co. requesting permit to conduct a meat distributing business at 3301 E. Vernon A.venue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Gerson Meat CO. requesting a permit to conduct a wholewale meat business at 3301 E. Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from John Keller, requesting a permnt to operate an automotive lunch wagon within the City, was read. 2. 227 It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and tIle matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from M. L. Fries, requesting permit to operate rooms and cabins at 5208 Santa Fe Avenue was read. Justman, requesting a permit to operate cigarette vending machine at 5208 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. - It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailllard, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carrled. Communication from Abegg & Reinhold Co. requesting that a double center line be painted on East 26th street Bridge, due to the heavy traffic on bridge, was read. It was nloved by Mailllard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and matter !'eferred to the Police Department. Motion carried. CO~llunications from General Petroleum Corp. 2525 E. 37th Street, and Chain Belt Company, 3833 Santa Fe Avenue, reques ting permission to haul refuse from their respective premises along and upon the streets of the City of Vernon, were read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nications be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed and approved. Motion carried. Report of the COnIDlittee on Street Maintenance, Building, Purchas- ing and Library was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be approved and filed. Motion carried.
