19490118 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD JANUARY 18th, 1949 AT 2:00 PM IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Furlong, Anderson, Trowbridge and Milliard COUNCILMEN ABSENT) Leonis The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer submitting Plan No. 834 of the City of Huntington Park, for the improvement of East 52nd Street be- tween Pacific Blvd. and Malabar Street, recommending its approval, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and recommendation of the City Engineer approved. Motion carried. Communication from the City Engineer in regard to danage to newly erected fence at pumping plant No. 2 in the amount of $109.00 by Union Pacicif train and automobile driven by Wayne A. Sharkof, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the City Autorney. Motion carried. Communication from Safstrom Meat Co. requesting a license to conduct a storage and meat distribution business at 3301 E. vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Jackson-Marcus Supply Co. requesting permit to conduct a business of storing and warehousing of oil well supplies at 3612 E. 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit, granted. Motion carried. Communication from Southern California Gland Co. requesting a permit to extend their manufacturing business to plant located at 3650 E. So to Street, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Wes-ko Distributors, Inc. requesting a permit to conduct a sales office at 2625 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. ' . Communication from Harold Aranoff requesting permit to conduct a salvage metal business at 2090 E. 25th Street, was read. . It was moved by TWrowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and matter referred to Police Department for report. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the commu- nication be filed and matter referred to Police Department. Motion carried. . Communication from Baash-Ross Tool Company requesting curb paint- ing at 5512 So. Boyle Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed and matter referred to Police Department. Motion carried. ' Communication from Pioneer-Flintkote Co. requesting curb painting at 5601 So. Boyie Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Howard McCurdy requesting curb painting at 4875 Pacific Blvd. was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication oe filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Cole of California requesting a pedestrian cross-walk at 2615 Fruitland Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbrige, seconded by Anderson, that the commu- nication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion Carried. Communication from G.R.C. Truck & Coach Division of General Motors Corp. requesting permit to haul refuse from warehouse at Downey Road and Leonis Blvd.,along and upon the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations of electric system by Southern California Edison Co. for month of November, 1948, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from League of California Cities inviting the City to become a member of the League, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the cOm- munication be filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, secended by Mailliard, that the Report be filed. Motion carried. 2. 237 Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Pur- chasing and Library, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be filed. Motion carried. Communication from C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, requesting authority to sell approximately 1800 pounds of insulated scrap copper wire and 900 pounds of lead cable to Charles Harley Company at price of $10.50 per cwt. for scrap copper wire and $17.00 per cwt. for lead cable, was read. Bids received from Aaron Ferer & Son, Charles Harley Co. and Jos. Levin & Son. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the ,communications be filed and the bid of Charles Harley Company be accepted as the highest ahd best bid. Motion carried. RESOLUTION No. 1420, a resolution authorizing the City of Hunt- ington Park to construct certain improvements in the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolu- tion No. 1420, be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from Universal Pictures, asking permission to take pictures in the city of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge,that the'commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read: APPLICATION 14336 So. Calif. Gas Co. to install gas service at 4601 So. Boyle Ave. (Westinghouse Elect. Co.) APPLICATION 14337 So. Calif. Gas Co. to abandon service at 2500 E. 26th Street (Wilshire Oil Co.). APPLICATION 14338 So. Calif. Gas Co. to drill and fill bar holes in S/S 30th St. from 14 ft. Petroleum Corp. to renew 8 inch casing of 6 in oil pipe line across 28th street, 701 ft E/O Santa Fe Ave. APPLICATION 14343 Genl.
