It was moved by Trowbridge., seconded by Mailliard~ that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles CounVBoard of Supervisors together with resolution declaring a portion of Boyle Avenue within the City of Vernon no longer a part of County system of highways~ was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge~ that the com- 'munication be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Bethlehem Pacific Coast Steel Corporation~ requesting information as to when water service for Industrial purpose and fire service will be processed for their Wire Mill Department on Alcoa Avenue was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and referred to the City Engineer for report. Motion carried. Communication from Merit Meat Company requesting permit to conduct a wholesale meat business at 330l E Vernon Ave. was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from William C. Hamilton requesting permit to operate the McCoy Planing Mill at 3400 E. 26th Street~ was read. It was moved by Trowbridge~ secondee by Anderson~ that the commu- nication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Bert Knaster requesting permit to operate the Sterling Furniture Co. at 1919 E. 51st Street, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge~ that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Willis B. Eagler requesting permit to sell ice cream within the city, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge~ that the com- munication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Philip B. Moretti requesting a permit to operate a Cafe at 5208 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seoonded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed and matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication and report of Police Department on application of Harold Aranoff for permit to conduct a salvage metal business at 2090 E. 1. 254 ,25th Street, was read. The police Department recommends that the 'request be denied. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed and the recommendation of the Police Department concurred in. Motion carried. Report of Police Depoartment on request of Norman Frank to ope.ate a cafeteria at 2209 E. 49th Street, was read. The police Depart- ment recommended that the request be granted~ It was moved by Anderston, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report be filed and the recommendation of the Police Department con- curred in. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on request of Agnes Keith for a permit to operate a restaurant at 3156 E. 26th Street, was read. The Police Department recommends that request be granted. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbrige, that the report be ~iled and the recommendation of the Police Department con- cu~red in. Motion carried. Franchise Report from Los Angeles Transit Lines for period of January 1, 1948 to December 31, 1948 on Franchise No. 91, 521 and 576 together with check in amount of $4205.92 (check for period ending Dec- ember 31, 1947 in amount of $4379.21), was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be received and filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was read. It was mIDved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report be approved and filed. MotiDn carried. Report of the Committee on Street Maintenance, Building, Pur- chasing and Library was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the report be approved and filed. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department on request of Lee LUdlum Mfg. Co. for permit to conduct a business of selling new and used machinery and equipment at 2700 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. The Police Department recommemds that request be granted providing the Fire Department approves paint storage and paint booth. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the report be filed and recommendation concurred in and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication from Benedict Orel & Compa~y requesting permit to operate a scrap metal business at 2090 E. 25th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the communication be filed and permit denied. Motion carried. RESOLUTTON No. 1423, a Resolution fixing the delinquent date referred to in Section 19 of Ordinance No. 598, as March 3l, 1949, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that Resolu- tion No. 1423, be adopted. Motion carried.
