Leonis The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J.Furlong. It was moved by i'rowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. lit-30, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon, granting permission to Councilman John B. Leonis of said City to absent himself from regular meetings of said City Council for a Jeriod of 60 days, commenc- ing April 19, 19it-9, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mail1iard that Resolution No. lit-30 be adopted. Motion carried. Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, requesting authority to employ Mr. John E. Horton as Inspector in the Engineering Department ai rate of $350.00 per month, effective April 6, 1949, was read. It was moved by'Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the co~cation be filed and request granted. Motion carried. Communication from C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engin- eer on franchise statement submitted by Southern California Edison Company on franchise Ordinance 5?3, 504 and 611, was read. . It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard that the communication and report of C.A.Heinze, Consulting Engineer be received and filed. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze Consulting Engineer on operation of electric system by Southern California Edison Co. for the month of February, 19it-9, was read. It was moved by TrOWbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the report be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from John B. Moore submitting an application to fill the vacancy in the office of City Attorney, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the communication of John B. Moore be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Service Station Equipment Company requesting a permit to conduct a business of wholesale and,retail sales of gasoline pumps, grease, lube and air equipment parts at It-6l5 Hampton Street, WElS read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by i'rowbridge that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried'. Communication from American Olive Company requesting a permit to conduct a sales office at it-52l W. Produce Plaza, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried. 1. 27,2 .. Communication from Leland L. Ostrander requesting permit to sell ice cream from truck, was 'read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the request of Leland L. Ostrander be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. . Communication from Rich Steel Company requesting permit to haul refuse from premises of 2435 E. 37th street along and upon the streets of the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Mailliard seconded by Anderson that the communication be filed and permIt granted. Motion carried. Communication from Morris Metal Products Co. request- ing curb painting at 5164 Alcoa Avenue, was read. , It was moved by TrOWbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the communication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Keenan Pipe & Supply Company requesting curb painting at 2112 E. 27th Street, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the communication be filed and the metter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Alpha Beta Food Markets request- ing curb painting at 4901 S. Boyle Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the communication be filed and the matter be referred to > the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Ducommun Metals & Supply Company requesting consideration for the resurfacing of the east roadway of Alameda Street and of Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the communication of DuCOlDIll1m Metal & Supply Company be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried~ Communication from Office of State Controller submitt- ing an estimate of apportionments of Gasoline Tax and Motor Vehicle License F~es ("In LieuuTax) for fiscal year 1949-50. (Estimated Gas. Tax $2176.00 - Estimated Motor Vehicle License Fees $2236.00) was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard that the communication from the State Controller be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, in regards to request of United States Spring & Bumper Company, requesting permission to discharge certain waste water into City Storm Drain in Alcoa Avenue. The City Engineer advises that this waste water will amount to approximately 100 gallons per 'minute and will be diverted from the theusanitary sewer at the request of Mr. A. M.Baw, Chief Engineer and General 1anager of the County Sanitation Districtsl and that a letter is on file from Mr. E. A. Reinke, Chief of the state Bureau of Sanitary Engineering which approves such diversion to the Los Angeles River. The City Engineer recommends that the request be granted. It was moved by Mailliard, secondea by Trowbridge that the recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred in. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried. 20. 273 Copy of an application filed by the Los Angeles Transit Lines with the Public Utilities Commission of the state of California for authority to exercise rights and privileges under franchise granted by the County of Los Angeles and by the Cities of Los Angeles, Vernon, Huntington Park and South Gate, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the application be filed. Motion carried. RESOLUTION 1431, A Resolution of the CitY. Council of the City of Vernon, authorizing R. J. Furlong, as Mayor of the City of Vernon to sign a Disclaimer in an action entitled "Santa Fe Land and Improvement Company, a corporation, vs. County of Los Angeles, et al,. pending in Superior Court of Los Angeles CoUntY' and numberea 5404-8" was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that Resolution No. 1431 be adopted. Motion carried. The following applications, all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read. W/O Malabar Street. Application 14492 Southern California Water Company to repair water main in N/S E. 46th Street, ,0 ft. W/O St. Charles Ave. Application 14493 Southern California Gas Company to install gas service to supply 3000 E. 46th Street. (General Electric Application 14494 Southern California Gas Company to repair gas service supplting 27,0 S. Alameda Street. Application 1449~ Pacific Telephone & Telegraph CQmpany to place on pole in E/S Alameda Street. 131 ft. S/O 38th Street. Application 14496 Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company to remove one pole and two anchors in N/S Fruitland Avenue, 100 ft. W/O Hampton Street, 170 ft. E/O Hampton Street and N/W corner Fruitland Avenue and Hampton Street. Application 14497 Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company to raise manhole frame and cover to new street grade in S/S Fruitland Avenue, ,6 ft. E/O Santa Fe Avenue. Application 14498 Southern California Edison Company to install one pole and remove two poles in W/S Boyle Avenue, 462, ,82 and 68, ft. N/O Slauson Avenue.
