The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the
minutes of the previous meeting be approved and filed. Motion carried.
Communieation from Francis Bates, City Engineer, submitting
plans for the improvement of East 46th Street, between Soto Street and
Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the
plans for the improvement of East 46th Street be approved. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1432, A Resolution of the City Council approving
Drawings and Plans Nos. 10621 1063, 1065' and B4D-l064 for the improvement
of East 46th Street between ooto Street and Boyle Avenue, by the Central
Manufacturing Distriet, Inc. was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that
Resolution No. 1432 be adopted. Motion carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, submitting
plans for the improvement of East 48th Street, between Santa Fe Avenue
and Alameda Street, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that the
plans for the improvement of East 48th Street be approved. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1433, a Resolution of the City Council approving
Drawing No. A-3-989 for the improvement of East 48th Street between
Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda Street, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge, that
Resolution No. 1433 be adopted. Motion carried.
Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, recommending
that Mr. Glenwood Ashby be promoted from a pipe-fitter helper to pipe-
fitter, and from a rate of pay of $1.25' per hour to $1.5'0 per hour, effect-
ive May 1, 1949, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by TrOWbridge, that the
recommendation of the City Engineer be concurred. in. Motion carried.
Copy of an application filed by the Los Angeles Transit Lines
with the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California for
authority to supplement its rail line "V" service by the operation of
an occasional motor coach service along Vernon Avenue between Avalon
Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard for the handling of large numbers of
passengers at the breakup of baseball games at Wrigley Field, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the
application filed by the Los Angeles Transit Lines be referred to the
City Engineer and Police Department for study and report. Motion carried.
Communieation and report of F. H. Donnelly Fire Chief, on
request of R. E. Burkett Sales Co. for permit to handle color sales
lithography of the Pacific Press at 5'201 S. Soto Street. Fire Chief
Donnelly recommends that a permit be granted, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the

granted. Motion earried.

operate an upholstery manufacturing business at 5516 Santa Fe Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the
communication be ~iled and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom Dave Weyler's Chevron Service requesting
a permit to operate the Vernon Auto Service at 1938 East Vernon Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Mailliar~, seconded by Trowbridge, that the
communication be ~iled and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom Batz and Dayton Furniture Co. requesting
a permit to operate a retail ~urniture and appliance store at 4536
District Blvd., was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from L. M. Perry requesting a permit to sell
tOOls, wholesale and retail within the City, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the
request of L. M. Perry be referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication ~rom California Freightways requesting a permit
to operate a trucking business at 2533 East 27th Street, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson, that the
communication be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the Bank of America requesting curb paint-
ing at 4940 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the
comrnunication be filed and the matter re~erred to the Police Department.
Motion carried.
Communication ~rom Wesco Manufacturing Co. requesting curb
painting at 2375 East 27th street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mail11ard, that the
communication be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department.
Motion carried.
Communication from Kennard and Drake requesting curb painting
at 4686 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that ;he
communication be filed and the matter re~erred to the Police Department.
Motion carried.
A request o~ J. A. Bigham for a week vacation leave ~rom
janitor duties starting May 9, 1949, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson, that the
request o~ J. A. Bigham be gr~ted. Motion carried.
, Franchise report of the Los Angeles Transit Lin~s on franchise
Ordinance 608 (portiBn of Leonis Blvd. east of Paci~ic Blvd.) ~or period
of July 18, 1947 to ecember 31, 1948 together with check in sum o~ $290.16
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the report
of the Los Angeles Transit Lines be received and filed. Motion carried.

Resolution No. 1~3~, a Resolution of the City Council author-
izing a settlement for taxes collected against the properties of the
Defense Plant Corporation, now the Reconstruction Finance Corporation,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Resolution 1~3~ be adopted. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1~35, a Resolution of the City Council author-
izing and instructing the Mayor and the City Clerk to sign a maintenance
agreement between the City of Los Angeles and the City of Vernon for
traffic signals and traffic regulatory devices at Washington Boulevard
and Grande Vista Avenue (Do'WIley Road) was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge that
Resolution 1~35 be adopted. Motion carried.
The following applications, all having the approval of the
City Engineer, were read.
