HINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD ON AUGUST 23, 1949, AT 2 O'CLOCK P.M.

Councilmen Present: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Trowbridge
Councilmen Absent: Leonis
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
Ordinance No. 618, being an Ordinance fixing the amount
of money necessary to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property
within said City as a revenue to carryon the various departments of
such municipal corporation for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1949,
and to pay the bonded indebtedness of said City of Vernon? or any
portion or district thereof, was read for the second read~g.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Ordinance No. 618 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
mOrdinance No. 618, being an Ordinance fixing the amount
of money necessary to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property
within said City, was read for the third and final reading.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
618 be adopted. Motion carried.

Ordinance No. 619, being an Ordinance fixing the rate
of taxes and levying the taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1949,
was read for the second reading.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Ordinance No. 619 be passed for second reading. Motion carried.
Ordinance No. 619, being an Ordinance fixing the rate
of taxes and levying the taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1949,
was read for the third and final reading.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
619 be adopted. Motion carried.

Ordinance No.
Special Counsel, Edward R. Young, for the City of Vernon,
appeared before the City Council and reported; that on the 15th day of
July, 1949, the Superior Court of the State of California, in and for
the County of Los Angeles, in the case entitled, liThe People of the
State of California, Plaintiff, vs. The City of Los Angeles, a municipal
Corporation, et al., Defendants", and numbered 489890, ordered that each
defendant in the above entitled case, report to the court on or before
the 29th day of August, 1949, the proceedings taken by each of the defen-
dants in said action to comply with the judgement of the court dated the
ilst day of January, 1946. Special Counsel, Edward R. Young submitted to the.
City Council of the City of Vernon for its consideration a form of such
report. The City Council then fully considerated and discussed the report
as submitted.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the
form of said report so submitted be adopted, and said Special Counsel be
authorized and instructed to file the same in the Superior Court on or
before the 29th day of August, 1949, in compliance with said Order of 323
the Court. Motion carried.

Resolution No. 1448, a Resolution of the City Council of
the City of Vernon making an application to the State Board of Health
of the State of California, for a permit to discharge sewage origin-
ating in the City of Vernon into the Los Angeles Outfall Sewer, was read.
. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Resolution No. 1448 be adopted. Motion carried.

Noes: None
Absent; Leonis.
There being no further business to come before the meeting,
it was moved by Anderson seconded by Trowbridge that the meeting adjourn.
