The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion carried.

Communication from Francis Bates, City Engineer, in
regards to street openings and improvement in Tract No. l~~;G by the
Consolidated Pacific Investment Company. The City Engineer reports
that no completed plans have been filed for the proposed work. Bond
in the amount of $107,000. under recorded date of December 29, 1948
for completion of improvement work within one year was filed on
October 19, 1948. The City Engineer recoIl1I'lended that the matter be
referred to the City Attorney for appropriate action, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the
matter of the improvement work by the Consolidated Pacific Investment
Company be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication from Consolidated Pacific Investment
Company in regards to street improvements in Tract No. 14256, and
submitting Bond Extension in the amount of $107,000. was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the communication and Bond Extension submi,ted by the Consolidated
Pacific Investment Company be referred to the Ci~ Attorney and
City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
together with resolution attached appropriating $250.00 for acquisition
of right of way in 50th Street and in Fruitland Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the cOIl1I'lunication from the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors be filed.
Motion carried.
Communication and report of B. A. Moeller, Refinery Fire
Marshall, on request of the East-West Distributors for a permit to
conduct a gasoline distributing business at 2460 E. 28th Street. Refinery
Fire Marshall recommends that permit be granted, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the communication and report of the ~efinery Fire Marshall on the
application of the East-West Distributors be filed and the recommendation
be approved. Motion carried.
Communication and report of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief,
on the application of E. H. Roethler for a permit to conduct a business
of manufacturing wood trophy bases at 2616 Downey Road, and recommending
that a permit be granted, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard that the
comm~Ulication and report of the Fire Chief be filed and the recommendation
be approved. Motion carried.

Report o~ Police Department on application o~ Vefnon
Complete Bookeeping Service requesting a permit to conduct and operate
a bookeeping service at 3865 S. Soto S~reet. Police Department
submits report without recommendation, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the renort o~ the Police Department on application o~ Vernon Complete
Bookeeping Service be filed and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom Universal Merchandising Company
requesting a permit to engage in wholesale mail order business, selling
to variety, drug and department stores handling drug sundries, toys,
hardware items and household appliances at 5400 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the communication of Universal Merchandising Company be filed and permit

Communication ~rom California Con-Rod Service requesting
a permit to conduct a business of automotive and industrial grinding at
2061 E. 37th Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the corr~unication from California Con-Rod Service be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from High Standard Meat Company requesting
a permit to conduct a wholesale meat business ~t 2535 E. Vernon Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the communication from High Standard Meat Company be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from C. McGlasson and C. J. Endres request-
ing permit to operate restaurant at 2353 E. 38th Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the communication of C. McGlasson and C. J. Endres be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from George Kizanis requesting permit to
sell lunches within the city, was read.

It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the communication and request of George Kizanis be referred to the
Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Industrial Equipment Company requesting
curb painting at 44~1 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the communication of the Industrial Equipment Company be filed and the
matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Greenwalt Brothers, Inc. requesting
a permit to operate ~ truck service station at ~30l Downey Road, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge that
the communication from Greenwalt Brothers, Inc. be filed and permit granted.
Motion carried.
Communication from General Petroleum Corp. requesting permit
to haul refuse from 2525 E. 37th Street and 2423 E. 28th Street over and
along city streets, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that t~~o
communication and request of the General Petroleum Corp. be filed and
permit granted. Motion carried.

Statiscal Report filed by Air Pollution Control District,
Los Angeles County for month of November, 1949 was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge that
the report of the Air Pollution Control District be received and filed.
Motion carried.
Communication from James P. Kelly requesting the estab-
lishing of safety zones for pedestrians boarding street cars at Vernon
and Santa Fe Avenues, was read.
It was moved~by Anderson, seconded by TrmtJbridge that the
communication from James P. Kelly be referred to the City Engineer and
Chief of Police. Motion carried.
Communication from Dorothy Haas requesting that traffic
officer direct traffic at 37th Street and Soto Street from 4:l~ P.M.
to 6 P.M., was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication from Dorothy Haas be referred to the Police Department.

Ordinance No. 629, Repealing License Ordinance No. 626,
Regulating Business by Vehicle was read for the first reading.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Ordinance No. 629 be passed for first reading. Motion carried.
Report of Committee on Street Mainte~ance, Water, Building,
Library and Purchasing for December 6, 1949, was received.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the Committee Report be received and filed. Motion carried.
