19500228 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes .. MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD ON FEBRUARY 28, 1950, AT 2 O'CLOCK P.M. IN THE COm~CIL CHEVJ3ERS OF THE CITY HALL LOCATED AT 1+305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON.. CALIFORNIA COUNCILMEN PRESEI\IT: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Trowbridge COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Leonis .. The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that t~e m1nutessof the previous meeting be approved as read. Motion carried. Ordinance No. 630 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon, California, ordering, calling, providing for and giving notice of a Special Election to be held in the City of Vernon on the 11th day of APrill 1950, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of sa d City a proposition to incur bmnded indebtedness by said City, It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the seconde reading of Ordinance :10.630 be waived, and that Ordinance No. 630 be read by title for a second reading. Motion carried. Ordinance No. 630 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon, California, ordering, calling, providing for and giving notice of a Special Election to be held in the City of Vernon on the 11th da~ of April 1950, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of saId City a proposition to incur bonded indebtedness by said City, was read in full for a third reading. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that Ordinance No. 630 receive and pass a third reading, and be adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Trowbridge. Noes: None Absent: Leonis Resolution No. 11+79 - WHEREAS, a general municipal election is called to be held in the City of Vernon on the 11th day of April, 1950; and WHEREAS, this City Council has, by Ordinance this day adopted, called a special election to be held in said city on the same date for the purpose of submitting a proposition for the issuance of sewage bonds in the sum of $1,300,000.00; and " WHEREAS, it is desirable that said electiorrbe consolidated; NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Vernon DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER that said elections be and the same are hereby consolidated, and the election precinct, polling place and voting booths shall be the same, and there shall be only one set of election officers in the precinct established for said elections, and the elections shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that Resolution No. 11+79 be adopted and approved. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Trowbridge Noes: None Absent: Leonis Resolution No. 11+80 - Authorizing contract with the County of Los Angeles for the painting of traffic stripes on streets as directed by the Chief of Police, was read. No. 11+80 It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that be adopted and approved. Motion carries. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Trowbridge NOBS: None Absent: Leonis Resolution 4i 2/28/50 C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer reported that the Southern California Edison Company has requested permission to enlarge garage on leased propert.y in rear of City Hall. Construction work to cost approximate $4,000.00 , It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the request of the Southern California Edison Company be approved. Motion carried. E. Giles, Police Chief re~uested authority to place Caution Signs at railroad tracks crossing main arteries within the city, pursuant to orders issued by Pub~ic utility Commission. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the Police Chief be authorized to negotiate for the placing of caution signs at the required places. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before.the meeting, it was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard thit the meeting adjourn.
