COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon and Trowbrid
COUNCILMEN ABSENT : None
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the
minutes of the meeting held on May 2, 19,0, be approved as read. Motion
carried.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on May 9, 19,0, be approved
as read. Motion carried.
Communication from Los Angeles County Flood Control District
requesting approval of sale by Board of Supervisors to the Flood Control
District of tax deeded land for flood control purposes together with proposed
tax agreement. (J.R.Taylor Vernon Avenue Villa Lots N. 100 ft. of S. 31, ft.
of Lot l2)was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication from the Los Angeles County Flood Control District be referred
to the City Engineer and the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Communication fromF. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, requesting
authority to employ George E.Foster as hoseman to replace T. H. Garner who
resigned on May 1" 19,0, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Fire Chief, F.H.Donrlelly be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from T. E. Fennessy, Tulare, California,
submitting an application for employment in an administrative capaCity, was
read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the
communi9ation from T. E. Fennessy be filed. Motion carried.
Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations
of electrical system by the Southern California Edison Company for the month
of March, 19,0, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report
of the Consulting Engineer be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from ArtnThomas Machinery Company requesting
permit to conduct a specialized machinery bus~ess at 3820 Leonis Blvd., was
read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the
communication from the Art Thomas Machinery Company be filed, and permit
granted. Motion carried. .
Communication from Robson Machine Company requesting permit
to conduct a ~ch1ne shop at 233, E. ,2nd Street, was read.
It wa$ moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication from Robson Machine Company be filed, and permit granted.

Communication from Solar Manufacturing Corp. requesting
permit tp conduct a business of manufacturing small electronic parts at
2660 E. 46th Street was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication and request of the Solar Manufacturing Company be referred
to the Fire Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Dave Lane requesting permit to conduct
a wholesale distribution business of screw products at 3828 Santa Fe Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication and request of Dave Lane be filed and permit granted.
Motion carried.
Communication from Wittig Company, Inc. requesting a
permit to conduct an importing business of giftware and other merchandise
at 2064 E. 27th Street was read.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trovlbridge that the
communication and request of Wittig Company, Inc. be felerred to the
Fire Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Wood & Cies Manufacturing Company
requesting a permit to conduct a business of manufacturing of veneer panels
for radio and television cabinets at 2034 E. 48th Street was read.
It was moved by Anderson seconded by Poxon that the
communica~ion and request of Wood & Cies Manufacturing Company be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Rubber Products, Inc. requesting
a permit to conduct a rubber products business at 4615 Hampton Street
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Anderson that the
communication and request of the Rubber Products, Inc. be referred to the
Fire Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Industrial Analysis requesting a
permit to conduct a business of material inspection and consultation
service at 2909 E. 54th Street was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication and request of Industrial Analysis be referred to the Fire
Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Swell Time 'Ice Cream Company requesting.
permit to operate 15 ice cream vending bicycles within the city was read.
It was moved by Anderson seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Swell Time Ice Cream Company be referred to the Police
Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Jimmie Walker requesting additional
license to sell box lunches within the city was read.
It was moved by Anderson seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Jimmie Walker be referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication from Don Blackmore requesting additional
license to sell box lunches within the city was read.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of Don Blackmore be referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.

Communication from William Galloway requesting permit
to operate lUnch room at 2710 Fruitland Avenue was read.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication and request of William Galloway be referred to the
Police Department., Motion carried.
Communication from Bethlehem Pacific Coast Company
reques~ing that traffic control signals be placed at Slauson and
Alcoa Avenues, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Bethlehem Pacific Coast Steel Company be referred to
the City Engineer and Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Fairbanks Morse & Company requesting
curb painting on 46th Street, west of Soto Street was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Mailliard that
the request of Fairbanks Morse & Company be filed and the matter be
referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from L.A. Young Spring & Wire Company
requesting repainting of crosswalk at 3275 E. Slauson Avenue was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the communication from L.A. Young Spring & Wire Company be filed and
the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Charles E. Hires Company requesting
permit to haul refuse from 4383 Fruitland Avenue over and upon city
streets was read.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication from Charles E. Hires Company be filed and permit granted.
Motion carried.
Communication from Cleveland Twist Drill Company request-
ing permit to haul refuse from premises of 2301 E. 38th Street over and
upon city streets was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the communication from Cleveland Twist Drill Company be filed and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Norris Stamping & Manufacturing Company
requesting permit to haul refuse from 5215 S. Boyle Avenue over and
upon city streets was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Mailliard that
the communication from Norris Stamping & Manufacturing Company be filed
and permit granted. Motion carried.
Ordinance 632 - Regulating the establishment and maint-
enance of automobile camps and automobile trailer camps within the city,
fixing license therefor, ptoviding a penalty for violation thereof and
repealing all conflicting ordinances or parts of ordinances was read
for a second reading.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that
Ordinance 632 receive and pass a second reading. Motion carried.
Ordinance 632 - Regulating the establishment and manit-

It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that
Orainance 632 receive and pass a third reading and be adopted. Motion
carried.

Ordinance 633 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon,
California} providing for the issuance of bonds of said city in the
amount of '1,300,000. was read for a second reading.
It was moved by Anderson seconded by Trowbridge that
Ordinance 633 receive and pass a second reading. Motion carried.
Ordinance 633 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon,
California} providing for the issuance of bonds of said city in the
amount of ,1,300,000. was read for a third reading.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
Ordinance 633 receive and pass a third reading and be adopted. Motion
carried.

Absent: None
Report of the City Engineer on Well #3 on City Hall
property and requesting an emergency appropriation of $~185.00 for the
furnishing of new set of bowls for well pump, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Poxon that the
request of the City Engineer be approved. Motion carried.
Resolution 1489 - A Resolution of the City Council of the
City of Vernon declaring an emergency to exist in the maintenance of the
City of Vernon Water Department's Well #3, and appropriation funds for
the repair thereof, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Poxon that
1489 be adopted. Motion carried.
Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon and Trowbridge.
Noes: None
Absent: None
Report of the Police Department was received.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Mailliard that
the report of the Police Department be filed. Motion carried.
Resolution 1490 - A Resolution of the City of Vernon
authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute an agreement between
the City of Vernon and the City of Huntington Park in regards jo the
installation and maintenance of traffic signals at the intersection of
Boyle Avenue and Slauson Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Mailliard that
Resolution 1490 be adopted. Motion carried.

Noes: None

The following applications all having the approval of
the City Engineer were read.
Application 15173 - Southern California Gas Company to install gas service
at 5400 Alcoa Avenue.

Central Manufacturing District, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Mailliard that
the report 'and recommendation of the City Engineer be received and filed,
and that the improvement wor~ in E. 44th Street be accepted. Motion
carried.

it was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Poxon that the meeting adjourn.
