MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD ON AUGUST 1, 1950, AT 2 O'CLOCK
P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CfullffiERS OF THE
CITY HALL LOCATED AT 4305 SANTA FE
AVEImE, VERNON , CALIFORNIA.
COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Poxon, Mailliard
COUNCILMEN ABSENT : Trowbridge
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that the
minutes of a regular meeting held on July 18, 1950, and the minutes of
an adjourned regular meeting held on July 21, 1950, be approved as read.
Motion carried.
Communication from Strusaker Machine Qompany requesting
a permit to operate a tool and die shop at 2105 E. 37th Street, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Strusaker Machine Company be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Columbia Machine Company requesting
a permit to operate a machine shop at 2105 E. 37th Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Columbia Machine Company be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Melvin M. De Julio requesting a
permit to operate a lunch truck within the city, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Melvin M. De Julio be referred to the Police Department.
Motion carried.
Communication from Globe Sanitary Supply Company request-
ing curb painting at 2249 E. 38 Street, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that the'
request of the Globe Sanitary Supply Company be referred to the Police
Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Percival Steel & Supply Company
requesting curb painting at 4600 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Percival Steel & Supply Company be referred to the Police
Department. Motion carried.

Communication from Los Angeles County Board of
Supervisors submitting supplementary agreement to establiSh multi-
lateral County wide mutual aid plan between City of Vernon and
County of Los Angeles, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that
the supplementary agreement on County wide mutual aid be taken
under advisement. Motion carried.
Communication from League of California Cities
suggesting that no action be taken on County of Los Angeles Mutual
Aid Agreements as a Federal plan will contemplate an organization
extending beyond the~borders of Los Angeles County, was read.
It was moved by Poxon" seconded by Mailliard that
the communication from the League of California Cities be filed.
Motion carried.
Progress ieport No. 43 on Hyperion Activated Sludge
Plant submitted by Lloyd~Aldrich, City Engineer, City of Los Angeles,
was received.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that
Progress Report No. 43 submitted by the City Engineer of the City
of Los Angeles on the Hyperion Activated Sludge Plant be referred
to the Vernon City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication from County of Los Angeles ~egional
Planning Commission submitting Amendment No. 174 to the Master Plan
of Highways of Los Angeles County, was read.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson that
Amendment No. 174 to the Master Plan of Highways of Los Angeles
County be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Application by Los Angeles Transit Lines and Pacific
Electric Railway Company before the Public Utilities Commission for
authority to adjust fare zone limits and adjust and increase certain
fares, was received.
.It was moved by Poxon seconded by Mailliard that the
application by Los Angeles Transit Lines and Pacific Electric Railway
Company be referred to the Vernon Industrial Development Association.
Motion carried.
Report of Police Department was received.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded Poxon that the
report of the Police Department be filed. Motion carried.

Southern California Gas Company to repair gas

Avenue.

valve box at 2&66 E. 38th Street.

in N/S 44th Street from Alcoa Avenue to 134 ft. W/O
Alcoa Avenue.
Application 15302 -L. A. County Parks & Recreation to connect additional
plumbing facilities at 5201 Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Anderson that
applications 15291 to 15302 be filed and permits granted. Motion carried.
r:Ordinance No. 636 - An Ordinance or the City of
Vernon fixing the amount of' money necessary to be raised by taxation upon
taxable property within said city as a revenue to carryon the various
departments of' such municipal corporation for the fiscal year commencing
July 1, 1950, and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of said City
of Vernon, or any portion or district thereof, was read for a f'irst reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that Ordinan
No. 636 receive and pass a first reading.. Motion carried.
Demands on the General Fund and consisting of the
following items and in the total amount of $22,029.08 were read.
