CITY C.OUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON

P.M. IN THE COUNC IL CHAMBERS OF THE
CITY HALL, 1+30, SANTA FE AVENUE,
VERNON,. CALIFORNIA
COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Poxon, Trowbridge
COUNCILMEN ABSENT : Mailliard
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J..Furlong.
It was moved by Trowbridge,seconded by Poxon that the
minutes of September " 19,0, be approved as read. Motion carried.
Communication from Federal Ice & Cold Storage Company
requesting permit to establish a sanitary poultry processing plant on
the1rpremises at 1+221+ District Blvd., was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of the Federal Ice & Cold Storage Company be referred to the
City Attorney for interpretation of zoning ordinance. Mption carried.
Communication from Morey Schwartz requesting permit to
operate jewelry department at ,077 Santa Fe Avenue (Santa Fe Sales Co.)
was read.
It was moved by Poxan, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of Morey Schwartz be granted. Motion carried.
Communicatian from Donald C. McAtee reqyesting permit to
operate lunch truck within the city, was read.
It was moved by Paxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of Donald C. McAtee be referred to the Police Department. Motion
carried.
Communication and report ,of F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief, on
application of Magnaf'l'UX Corporation for permit to conduct a business of'
manufacturing laboratory testing equipment on Alcoa Avenue, near Fruitland
Avenue, was read. Fire Chief recommends that permit be granted.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
recommendation of' the Fire Chie:f be approved and permit granted to the
Magnaf'l'UX Corporation. Motion carried.

Communication from Pike Trailer Company requesting curb
painting at 261, Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the
request of Pike Trailer Company be referred to the Police Department.
Hotion carried.
Communication from Acme Brewing Company requesting
painting of crosswalk across East ,1st Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Acme Brewing Company be referred to the Police Department.
Hotion carried
Report of the Police Department was received.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried.
The following applications all having the approval of
the City Engineer were read.
Application 15404, Southern California Edison Company to install 1 anchor
in N/S ,7th Street, 180 ft. W/O Second Street.
Apu,lication 15405
Southern California Edison Company to install 2 poles
,and 1 anchor in E/S Soto Street, ,1, ft. N/O Vernon
Avenue.and W/S Soto Street, 461 and 476 ft. N/O Vernon
Avenue.
Southern California Edison Company to install 1 pole
and 3 anchors in E/S Boyle Avenue, 10" 160 and 190 ft.
S/O Leoms Blvd.
Application 15407 Pacific Telephone Company to place 165 ft. of under-
ground conduit in E!S Downey Road from Fruitland Avenue
northerly 65 ft.

Application 15408 Southern California Gas Company to install gas service
at 3261'E. 44th Street. .
Appli<(~tion 15409 U. S. Steel & Supply Co. to connect additional plumbing
facilities to sewer at 5819 Second Street.
Application 15410 Universal Merchandise Company to connect additional
plumbing facilities to sewer at ~OO Santa Fe Avenue.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that
applications numbered 1~04 to 15~lO inclusive, be filed and permits
granted. Hotion carried.

demands in the amount of $26,9;3.61 be ;!lowed and warrants drawn
for same. Motion carried.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
Assistant F1re.Chief Husted be permitted to attend instructions at the
University of California, Los Angeles Branch, for instructions in
Fire Protection Engineering, and the city to pay enrollment fee
of $27.00. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1500 of the CitybCouncil fixing the
compensation of W.B.Hollingworth, City Engineer, for months of May and
.1une,19,O, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge! seconded by Poxon that
15" be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Resolution No. 1501 of the City Council fixing the
compensation for certain employees of said city as of July 1, 19,0,
was read.
