J. Furlong. Mr. J. A. Cereghino, President of the Vernon Industrial Development Association addressed the Council and requested that no action be taken on Ordinance 638, Creating and establishing a City Manager form of Government until the first meeting in February, 1951. The minutes of the meeting held on November 21, 1950, were read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the minutes of the meeting held November 21, 1950, be approved as read. Motion carried. ing ing was Communication from W.B., Hollingworth, City Engineer, request- authority to employ Mr. Robert C. tienderson as Chainman in the Engineer- Department at rate of $250.00 per month, effective December 1, 1950, read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the request of the City Engineer be approved and that Mr. Robert C. tienderson be employed as Chainman in the Engineering Department. Motion carried. Communication from Sam R. Kennedy, County Road Commissioner, in regards to County Allocation to Cities of gasoline tax money, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the communication from thecCounty Road Commissioner be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried. Communication from City Clerk, City of Los Angeles, request- ing use of City Hall as polling place for elections to be held April 3rd and May 29th, 1951, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the request of the City Clerk of the City of Los Angeles be approved. Motion carried. Progress ~eport No. 47 submitted by Lloyd Aldrich, City Engineer, City of Los Angeles on Hyperion Activated Sludge Plant for month of October, 1950, was received. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that Progress Report No. 47 on Hyperion Activated Sludge Plant submitted by the City Engineer of the City of Los Angeles be referred to the Vernon City Engineer. Motion carried. Communication from Los Angeles County Medical Association in regards to a plan for care of civilians in event of major disaster in Los Angeles County, was reaq. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the communication from the Los Angeles County Medical Association be referred to the Vernon City Health Officer. Copy of application filed by Los Angeles Junction Railway Company before the California Public utilities Commission for authority to construct a spur track across and upon Seville Avenue, under Ordinance 639, was received. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that copy of application filed by Los Angeles Junction Railway Company before the California Public Utilities Commission be filed. Motion carried. Communication from Anchor Lumber Company requesting permit to conduct a wholesale lumber business at 2500 E. 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the request of the Anchor Lumber Company be granted. Motion carried. Communication from The Bassick Company requesting permit to conduct warehouse at 3320 Fruitland Avenue, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the request of the Bassick Company be granted. Motion carried. Communication from George E. and James R. Frawley, dba Economy Money Exchange requesting permit to conduct a check cashing and check selling business at 3939 S. Soto Street, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the request of George E. and Frank R. Frawley be granted. Motion carried. Communication from Behr-Manning Corp. re~uesting permit to conduct business of selling coated abrasives at 49th Street and District Blvd. was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the request of Behr-Manning Corp. be referred to the Fire Department. Motion carried. Communications from Utility Steel Foundry, cook7R~~llRI Company, Bethlehem Pacific Coast Steel Corporation, L.A. Young Spring & Wire Corporation and United Steel Workers of America in regards to the installation of traffic signals at Alcoa and Slauson Avenues, were read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the communications regarding traffic signals at Alcoa Avenue and Slauson Avenue be referred to the City Engineer, Consulting Electrical Engineer and Police Department. Motion carried. Communication (bearing no signature) regarding the installation of 3 way signals at District Blvd. and Atlantic Blvd. was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the communication be filed. Motion carried. Communications from Advance Galvanizing Company and Pacific Press, Inc. requesting curb painting, were read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the communications requesting curb painting be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. . Report of W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, on hearing held by Board of Supervisors pf Los Angeles County, November 28, 1950, relative to the forming of a Water Conservation Zone in the area of the Central Coastal Plain, was read. The City Engineer reported that the Board of Supervisors abandoned the plan indefinitely. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report of the City Engineer be received and filed. Donnelly, Fire Chief, oh.!lapplication of Troy Manufacturing Company to operate a business of pressure molding of non-ferrous metals at 2318 E. 52nd Street, was read. Fire Chief recommended that permit be granted. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that the recorr~endation of the Fire Chief be approved and permit granted to the Troy Manufacturing Company. Motion carried. Communication from W.B. Ross, ~eputy City Clerk, requesting permission to take second week of annual vacation beginning December 11, 1950, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that the request of W.B. Ross, Deputy City Clerk be granted. Motion carried. Communication from George G. Skalsky submitting application for employment as Steno-clerk was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the application of George G. Skalsky be referred to the City Clerk. Motion carried. Report of the Police Department was received. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried. The following applications numbered 15618 to 15632 incl. all having the approval of the City Engineer were read. Application 15618 - Southern California Gas Co. to abandon gas service at 2300 E. 38th Street. Application 15619 - Southern California Gas Company to repair gas main in S/S 26th Street, 7 ft. E/O Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railway r/w E/O Downey Road. Application 15620 - Southern California Gas Company to install gas service at 3843 S. Soto Street. Application 15621 - Southern California Gas Company to install gas service at 2914 E. 46th Street. Application 15622 - Pacific Telephone Company to place 1 ground brace in W/S Pacific Blvd. 300 ft. N/O Fruitland Avenue. Application 15623 - Southern California Edison Company to install 1 pole and anchor in W/S Alcoa Avenue, 169 ft. N/O 44th Street. Application 15624 - Central Manufacturing District, Inc. to construct sidewalk, driveway and curb in S/S 44th Street, W/O Boyle Avenue. Application 15625 - WID. Carter Jr. to construct sidewalk in parking area in S/S Leonis Blvd., 510 to 520 ft. W/O Downey Road. Application 15626 - L.A.Junction Railway Company to construct sidewalk in N/S 44th Street, 1015 to 1029 ft. W/O Boyle Avenue. Application 15627 - Magnaflux Corp. to construct'driveway and curb in E/S Alcoa Avenue, 118 to 139 ft. S/O Fruitland Avenue. Application 15628 - Union Oil Company to construct sidewalk. curb and driveway in N/S Fruitland Avenue from Soto Street to 104.98 ft. W/O Soto Street. 3. 1.75 12/5150 Application 1,630 - Plus Products Company to install 2 - 4 in. C.I. roof drains undersidewalk at 2302 E. 38th Street. Application 1,631 - O.K. Union Company to construct 8 in. C.I. water main in Irving Street, per City Engineer plan B4B-1138. Application 1,632 - Cole of California, Inc. to construct 2 driveways and curb in NIS Fruitland Avenuei 81.5 to 103.5 ft. and 204 to 226 ft. WIO Pacific B yd. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that applications numbered 15618 to 15632 incl. be filed and permits granted. Notion carried. Report of C. A. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report of the Consulting Electrical Engineer be received and filed. Motion carried.
