CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON

COUNCILMEN ABSENT : None
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J.Furlong.
Communication from Byron Jackosn Company reqaesting
permit to erect flameproof tent at 2300 E. Vernon Avenue for their
annual Christmas program to be held December 22, 1950, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Byron Jackson Company be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Modern Pattern & Foundry Company request-
ing installation of traffic signals at Alcoa and Slauson Avenues, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the communication from Modern Patterm & Foundry Company be referred to
the City Engineer, Consulting Electrical Engineer and Police Department.
Motion carried.
. Communication from Norrie stamping & Manufacturing Company
and Aluminum Company of America requesting removal of parking restrictions
on Boyle Avenue and Fruitland Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon t~t the
communications from the Norris Stamping & Manufacturing Company and the
Aluminum Company of America be referred to the City Attorney and Poliee
Department. Motion carried.
Communication from Office of Los Angeles County Flood
Control District regarding need of replenishment of underground water in
Central Coastal Basin and requesting permission to appear before the City
Council to discuss the current need for replenishment, and the problems
therewith, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
Clerk be instructed to notify the office of the Los Angeles County Flood
Control District that on January 16, 1951, at 3 o'clock P.M. the City
Council will hear a representative from the office of the Los Angeles
County Flood Vontrol District in the matter of water replenishment. Motion
carried.
Communication from Capital Container Corporation request-
ing permit to establish a business of manufacture and distribution of
corrugated shipping containers at 5050 Pacific Boulevard, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the
request of the Capital Container Corporation be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from General Electric Company requesting
permit to conduct a warehouse at 3051 E. 46th Street, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of the General Electric Company be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Kirkhill, Inc. requesting permit to
operate a warehouse at 2244 E. 37th Street, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of Kirkhill, Inc. be referred to the Fire Department. Motion i...f~8..

Communication and report from F.H.Donnelly, Fire Chief,
on application of Behr-Manning Corporation requesting permit to conduct
business of selling coated abrasives at 49th street and District Blvd.,
was read. The Fire Chief recommends that a permit be granted.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the recommendation of the Fire Chief be approved and permit granted to
Behr-Manning Corporation.. Motion carried.
Communications from the Gilmore Steel & Supply Company,
Container Corporation and Plus Products Company requesting curb painting,
were read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the
communications from Gilmore Steel & Supply Company, Container Corporation
and Plus Products Company be filed and the metter referred to the Police
Department. Motion carried.
COIDT1unication from General Petroleum Corporation request-
ing permit to haul refuse ftom premises of 25'25' E. 37th Street and 2423
E. 28th Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the General Petroleum Corporation be granted. Motion carried.
Communication from the City Clerk requesting permission
to employ an additional typest-clerk, was read.
. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Poxon that the
request of the City Clerk be granted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard
that applications numbered 15649 to 15668 incl. be filed and permits
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from K. T. Norris requesting removal
of parking restrictions on Fruitland Avenue and Boyle Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication from K.T. Norris be referred to the City Attorney and Police
~epartment. Motion carried.
Communication from W.B. HOllingworth, City Engineer,
reconunending an extension of time to February 1, 1951, in the matter of
improvements in 45th Street and Seville Avenue by the Consmlidated Pacific
Investment Company, providing the bond on file with the City of Vernon
guaranteeing the installation of the improvement be extended to the same
date, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that
the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved, subject to the filing
and approval by the City Attorney of bond. extension by the Consolidated
Pacific Investment Company. Motion carried.
Communications from Jack Wallace and Sam C. Capra,
members of the Vernon Fire Department submitting an application for
rental of municipal house vacancy at 4330 Furlong Place, was read.
Communication from Clyde E. Chapman, Haintenance-man
for Water Department submitting application for rental of municipal house
vacancy at 4330 Furlong Place, was read.

Communication and recommendation of W.B. HOllingworth,
City Engineer, that consideration be given to application of Clyde E.
Chapman for municipal house vacancy due to number of night service calls
andhecessity for a service man residing near the Water Department, was
read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that Mr.
Sam C. Capra of the Vernon Fire Department be allowed the use of municip~
house at 4330 Furlong Place. Motion carried.
Report of Police Department was received.
It was moved by Enderson, seconded by Trowbridge t~t
the report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried.
Demands on the General Fund in the amount of $40,969.30
