The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J.Furlong.
Communication ~rom W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer,
requesting authority to employ Frederico M. Perez as semi-skilled
laborer in Street Department at rate o~ $9.00 per day, e~~ective
December 22, 1950, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request o~ the City Engineer be approved and that the employment o~
Frederico M. Perez be con~irmed. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom the City Clerk requesting approval
o~ emplo~ent o~ GeDrge G. Skalsky as typest-clerk in the o~~ice o~
the City Clerk at rate o~ $275.00 per month, e~fective December 27, 1950,
was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request o~ the City Clerk be approved and that the employment o~ George
G. Skalsky be confirmed. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer,
in regards to dry wood aerial termite infestation in attic area over
Fire Department and in ~loor o~ City Engineer's o~fice and recommending
that the infestation be corrected, and that the Terminix Company has
o~~ered to make correction ~or estimated cost o~ $250.00 to $300.00, was
read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
recommendation o~ the City Engineer be approved and that the Terminix
Company be employed to make necessary repairs to termite infestation.
Motion carried.
Progress Report No. 48 submitted by Lloyd Aldrich, City
Engineer, City o~ Los Angeles on Hyperion Activated Sludge Plant ~or
month o~ November, 1950, was received.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
Progress tieport No. 48, submitted by the City Engineer o~ the City o~
Los Angeles be re~erred to the Vernon City Engineer. Motion carried.
An Order by the Public Utilities Commission o~ the
State o~ Cali~ornia authorizing the City o~ Vernon to construct and
improve Seville Avenue and 45th Street across spur tracks o~ the Los
Angeles Junction Railway Company, was received.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the Order o~ the Public Utilities Commission o~ the State o~ Cali~ornia be
re~erred to the City Engineer. Motion carried.
Communication ~rom Dr. Carl E. Nemthi, City Health
O~~icer, in regards to communication from Los Angeles County Medical
Association regarding Civilian Defense in this area, and suggesting the
appointment of a Medical Director for this community, and after the
appointment of such medical director he will be able to contact various
groups and organizations set up by the Federal, State and County agencies
and work out a satisfactory program with them, was read.

It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that
City Health Officer, Dr. Carl E. Nemethi be appointed as Medical Director
in the matter of Civilian Defense for this community. Motion carried.
Communication and report of F.R.Donnelly, Fire Chief,
on app~ication of Kirkhill, Inc. requesting permit to operate a warehouse
at 2244 E. 37th street, was read. Fire Chief, F.R. Donnelly, recommends
that a permit be granted.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the recommendation of the Fire Chief be approved and permit granted to
Kirkhill, Inc. for warehouse purposes. Motion carried.
Communication from R. M. Beckenstein requesting permit
to peddle industrial type watches within the city, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of R.M. Beckenstein be denied. Motion carried.
Communication from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation request-
ing a permit to warehouse, service and repair aircraft accessories and parts
at 2801 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation be gran;ed. Motion carried.
Communications from Magnaflux Corporation and United
States Steel Supply Company requesting curb painting, were read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that
the request for curb painting by the Magnaflux Corporation and the United
States Steel Supply Company be filed and the matter referred to the Police
Department. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1~14 - Allocating the estimated revenues
for year 1950-51 to various city departments, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
No. 1514 be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Communication and report of E. Giles, Police Chief,
C. A. Heinze, Consulting Electrical Engineer and W.B. Hollingworth, City
Engineer recommending that traffic signals be placed at Alcoa and Slauson
Avenues at an approximate cost of $3,000.00, was read.
Communication and report of E. Giles, Police Chief,
and W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, recommending the installation of
traffic Signals at 55th Street and Santa Fe Avenue at an approximate cost
of $3,000.00 was read.
Communication and report of E. Giles, Police Chief,
and W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, recommending the installation of
traffic signals at Fruitland Avenue and Pacific Boulevard at an approximate
cost of $3,000.00 was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
City Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the
installation of Traffic Signals at Alcoa and Slauson Avenues, Santa Fe
Avenue and 55th Street, and Fruitland Avenue and Pacific Boulevard. Motion
carried.
Communication and recommendation of W.B. Hollingworth,
City Engineer, that municipal house at 4330 Furlong Place be repainted on
the interior and floors refinished at an approximate cost of $563.00, was
read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard that
the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved. Motion carried.

Communication from W. B. Hollingworth, City Engineer,
submitting claim from City of Los Angeles in amount of $27,516.24 as
Vernon's share of the cost of maintenance and operation of the Hyperion
Sewage Treatment Plant and Outfall Sewer for period of July 1, 1949 to
June 30, 1950, was read. The City Engineer recommended that the claim be
referred to the City Attorney and E. R. Young, Special Council.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
the claim submitted by the City of Los Angeles be referred to the City Attorne
and Special Counsel, E.R. Young. Motion carried.
Communication from BYron Jackson Company requesting
cross-walk in vicinity of 2301 E. Vernon Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request of Byron Jackson Company for crosswalk be filed and the matter
referred to the Police Department. Motion carried.
Report of the Police Department was received.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Vernon Chamber of Commerce in regards
to the formation of an organization to be known as the Vernon Chamber of
Comnleree and requesting a time and date when the Board of Directors could
meet with the City Council, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that
February 6, 1951 be fixed as a date to hear from the Board of Directors of
the Vernon Chamber of Commerce. Motion carried.

It was moved by poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that
F.B. Donnelly, Fire Chief be authorized to attend Civilian Defense meeting
to be held in Sacramento, January 4th, 1951, with a reasonable expense
allowance. Motion carried.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that Loyd
A. Harris, Fire Alarm maintenance man be authorized to go to Bakersfield
for study of Fire Department radio equipment and specifications with expense
allowance not to exceed $50.00. Motion carried.
Ordinance 640 -Amending Ordinance No. 541 was read
by title for a first reading.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that
Ordinance No. 640 receive and pasS a first'reading by title. Motion carried..
