IN THE COUNCIL CHAHBERS OF THE CITY HALL LOCATED AT 4305 SANTA FE AVElJUE~ VERNON~ CALIFOHNIA COUNCIL PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Poxon, Trowbridge COUNCIL ABSENT : Nailliard The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J. Furlong. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the minutes of March 6, 1951 be approved as read. Motion carried. Communication from W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, requesting authority to employ Mr. Enrique Solorzano as semi-skilled labor in Street Department at rate of $9~00 per day effective March 14, 1951, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the request of \1J.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer be approved and the employment of Mr. Enrique Solorzano as semi-skilled laborer ib the Street Department be confirmed. Motion carried. Communication from Carl A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on franchise reports submitted by the Southern California Edison Company on Franchise Ordinance No. 503, 504 and 611 for operation of electric system and transmission lines within the city for period ending December 31, 1950, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that the report of C.A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer be received and filed. Motion carried. Report of C. A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer on operations of electric system by the Southern California Edison Company for month of January, 1951, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report of C.A. Heinze, Consulting Engineer, on operations of electric system by the Southern California Edison Company for month of January, 1951, be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Klassen Company requesting a permit to conduct a business of cabinet manufacturing at 2335 E. 27th Street, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the request of Yuassen Company be approved. Motion carried. Communication from General Motors Corporation Truck and Coach Division requesting permit to conduct and operate a truck parts warehouse at 3385 Leonis Blvd., was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the request of General Motors Corporation Truck & Coach Division be approved. ~lotion carried. Communication from J.P. Rodgers requesting permit to operate cafeteria at 3317 E. 50th Street (Venus Foods) was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the request of J.P. Rodgers be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. 218 3/2~/51 Communication from Herbert Goldstein requesting permit to operate lunch truck within the city, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the request of Herbert Goldstein be referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from Play-yard Equipment Company request- ing curb painting at 2322 E. Vernon Avenue, was read. Cow~unication from Stockham Valve & Fitting Company requesting curb painting at 5502 Alcoa Avenue, was read. Communication from Byron Jackson Company requesting curb painting at 2301 E. Vernon Avenue, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the communtcations from Play-yard Equipment Company, Stockham Yalve & Fitt- ing Company and Byron Jackson Company be filed and the matter referred to the Police Department. Motion carried. Communication from R. T. Dorsey, Traffic Engineer, City of Los Angeles, advising that Mr. Alvin Anthony has requested the establishing of safety stop zone at street car stop at 48th Street . and Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the communication from R.T. Dorsey, Traffic Engineer be referred to the Police Department for report. Motion carried. Cow~unication from Ideal Hardware Company requesting permit to haul refuse from premises of 3050 Leonis Blvd., over and upon city streets, was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the request of the Ideal Hardware Company be approved. Motion carried. The following applications all having the approval of the City Engineer, were read. Application 1588'( - Southern California Gas Company to abandon gas service at 2101-3 East 37th Street. Application 15888 - Southern California Gas Company to abandon gas service at 1929 E. Vernon Avenue. A lication 1 88 - Southern California Gas Company to install gas service at 2 33 E. 37th Street. Application 15890 - Southern California Edison Company to install 1 pole and remove 1 pole in SIS 46th Street, 135 and 155 ft. WIO St. Charles Street. Application 15891 - L.A. Junction Railway Company to resurface spur track across Downey Road approximate 270 ft. SIO Vernon Avenue. Application 15892 - L.A. Junction Railway Company to resurface spur track crossing Soto Street approximate 280 ft. SIO 44th Street. Application 15893 - L.A. Junction Railway Company to resurface portion of spur track crossing NIS 46th Street approximate 470 ft. W 10 Soto Street. Application 15894 - Rexall Drug Company to construct sidewalk in WIS Soto Street, 20~ to 305 ft. NIO Fruitland Avenue. 2. 21. 3/20/51 Application 12895 - General Electric Company to make sewer connection at 3051 E. 46th Street. Application 15896 - Wendell H. Kinney to make sewer connection at 26l2-l~ Leonis Blvd. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that applications numbered 15887 to 15896 incl. be filed and permits granted. Motion carried. Communication from W .B. Hollingworth, City Engineer requesting authority to have Consolidated Crane Company remove abandoned gasoline storage tank located adjacent to northside of Pumping Plant for safety reasons, was read. Consolidated Crane Company agreed to remove tank at no cost to city for salvage. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Anderson that request of City Engineer, W.B. Hollingworth be approved. Motion carried. Reporc of W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, on operations of Water Department for period of July 1,1950 to February 28, 1951 was received. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report on the Water Department submitted by the City Engineer be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Pantasote Company requesting permit to conduct a sales and warehouse of chair and seat coverings at 5110 Pacific Blvd., was read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the request of Pantasote Company be approved. Motion carried. Resolution No. 1523 - Awarding contract to Electric and Machinery Service, Inc. for the furnishing and installing of traffic control signals in accordance with Specifications No. 154, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon Resolution No. 1523 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, poxon, Trowbridge Noes: None Absent: Mailliard that A report was made by C.B. Hubbard, City Attorney on petition filed by Bethlehem Pacific Coast Steel Company for zone variance, that due to the uncertainty in the matter of publishing and posting of notices in regards to zone variance that a new date should be set on the hearing. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the report of the City Attorney be received and concurred-in, and that on April 3, 1950 the City Council set a new date for the hearing of protests in the matter of zone variance. Motion carried. Demands on the General Fund in the amount of $36,216.14 were presented and consisted of the following.
