COUNCIL ABSENT : None
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J. Furlong.
It was moved by Poxon seconded by Trowbridge that the
minutes of the meeting held December l~, 1951 be approved as written and
transmitted. MotiO'n carried.
CO'mmunicatiO'n from Burgeson Cabinet Company requesting
permit to' conduct a cabinet and custom milling business at 4604 Alcoa
Avenue, vIaS read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request O'f Burgeson Cabinet Company be approved and permit granted.
MO'tion carried.
CO'mmunicatiO'n frO'm Sunset Floor CO'verings CO'mpany request-
ing a permit to' conduct a wholesale floor covering business at 4900 LO'ma
Vista Avenue, was read.
It vJaS mO'ved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request O'f the Sunset Floor Coverings CO'mpany be referred to' the
Fire Department. MO'tiO'n carried.
CO'mm1lnication from Palley Supuly Company requesting a
permit to conduct a retail hardware and industrial supply business at
2263 E. VernO'n Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by PoxO'n that the
request O'f Palley Supply Company be apprO'ved and permit granted. Motion
carried.
CO'mmunication from Dealers Cooperative Supply CO'mpany
requesting a permit to' conduct a building material business at 4727
East 49th Street, was read.
It was mO'ved by PoxO'n, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of the Dealers CO'operative Supply Company be referred to' the
Fire Department. MO'tion carried.
Communication frO'm CO'mbined Products CorDO'ration requesting
a permit to conduct a mattress assembling business at 4604 Alcoa Avenue,
was read.
It was mO'ved by PO'xon, seconded by TrO'wbridge that the
request O'f CO'mbined Products CO'rpore,tiO'n be referred to the Fire Department.

Cammunication from Carl Hirschmann Campany requesting
curb painting at 5124 Pacific Baulevard, was read.
It was maved by Paxon, secO'nded by Trawbridge that the
request af Carl Hirschmann Campany be referred to the Palice Department
with pawer to' act. Motion carried.

Copy of Resolution 1345 adopted by City of Maywood
the purpose of cooperating with cities of Huntington Park, Bell,
South Gate, Vernon, Lynwood, Montebello, Compton, Whittier and un-
incorporated territory of Los Angeles County in emergencies, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
Resolution 1345 submitted by the City of MaYVlOod, be received and
fj,led. Notion carried.
Communication from E. Giles, Chief of Police recomm-
ending that Motorcycle Officer George W. Walter be raised to motorcycle
officer Class3 at monthly rate of $338.00 per month, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
the recommendation of Police Chief, E. Giles be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from W.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer,
advising of completion of street light work at Furlong Place and Vernon
Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication and report of the City Engineer be filed. Motion carried.
COmL~unication from W.B. HOllingworth, City Engineer,
requesting authority to employ ~~. Arthur P. Lopez as semi-skilled
laborer in Street Department at rate of $10.20 per day, effective
January 2, 1952 was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the
request of the City Engineer to employ ~~. Arthur P. Lopez in Street
Department be approved. Motion carried.
Communication from W.B. HOllingworth, City Engineer,
requesting authority to employ }~. Manuel A. Vace as semi-skilled
laborer in Street Department at rate of $10.20 per day, effective
January 3, 1952 was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson that the
request of the City Engineer to employ }~. Manuel A. Vace in the Street
Department be approved. Motion carried.
COmDlunication from W.B. HOllingworth, City Engineer,
~n regards to injury of Mrs. Gladys Hymes by stepping in hole in
pavement in Alcoa Avenue near Leonis Boulevard, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that
the communication from the City Engineer in regards to injury of
Y~s. Gladys Hymes be referred to the City Attorney. Motion carried.
Report of Police Department was received.
It was moved by poxon, seconded by Anderson that the
report of the Police Department be received and filed. Motion carried.

Request was made by E. Giles, Chief of Police for
authorization to employ 12 additional men in Police Department f'or
use in day radio car patrol.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the request of the Police Chief be approved. Motion carried.
Resolution 1566 - of the City Council authorizing the
settlement of a claim for destruction of Vernon Fire Hydrant No. 208
was read.

be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Resolution 1567 -Directing the maintenance and
Pest Control of the old city hall property located at 3715 Irving
Street, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard
that Resolution 1567 be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Resolution 1568 - of the City Council of the City
of Vernon authorizing the issuance of a report clearing the accounts
of G.A.Anderson to the 30th day of June, 1951, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
Resolution 1568 be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Application 16829 - Pacific Telephone Company to repair U/G conduit
in N/S Slauson Avenue, 30 and 90 ft. E/O Alcoa Avenue.

spur track in E/S Santa Fe Avenue, 310 ft. S/O 48th S
Application 16831 - Santa Fe RaihTaY Company to replace ballast and ties
