COUNCIL ABSENT : None The meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J. Furlong. t A hearing on petition filed by Food Hachinery Corporation for zone variance in accordance with Resolution 1615 adopted on August 5, 1952, was had. Mr. William R. MacKay, Court Reporter, was present and reported the proceedings. The City Clerk ap~ounced that he had received no ,~itten protests on the zone variance. The Mayor asked if anyone from the floor wished to address the Council on the zone variance matter, no one expressed a desire to be heard. Several representatives from the Food Hachinery Corporation were examined by the attorney for the Food Hadhinery Corporation in behalf of granting the variance and presented Exhibits 1, 2, 3 and 4 into evidence. A written report was filed by vl.B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, and a copy given to petitioners, as City Exhibit IIA". The Mayor asked if there were any verbal protests from the floor on the requested variance. No response was heard from the floor, it was then moved, seconded and carried that the hearing stand adjourned until 2 d~clock P.M. Tuesday, September 2md, 1952. The Mayor then called the Council to order for any further unfinished business. l~e follovrnmg Ordinance was then presented. Ordinance 649 - an Ordinance of the City of Vernon fixing the amount of money necessary to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property vJi thin said city as a revenue to carryon the various depart- ments Of such municipal corporation for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1952, and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness Of said City of Vernon, or any portion or district thereof, 'lt/as read for a Se.H::ond'}'readini. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that Ordinance 649 receive and pass a second reading. Notion carried. Ordinance 649 - an Ordinrolce of the City of Vernon fixing the amount of money necessary to be raised by Taxation upon the taxable property within said city as a revenue to carryon the varipus depart- ments of such mvnicipal corporation for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1952, and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of said City of Vernon, or any portion or district thereof, was read for a third and final reading. Resolution 1616 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon fixing the rate of taxes and leving the taxes for the fiscal year-beginning July 1, 1952, was read. It was moved by lL~derson, seconded by Trovroridge that Resolution 1616 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon, Trowbridge. Noes: None Absent: None Resolution 1620 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon authorizing the settlement of a claim for damages to traffic signal on east-side of Santa Fe Avenue at 25th Stroet, was read' It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge that Resolution 1620 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Nailliard, Poxon, Trowbridge Noes: None Absent: None Resolution Resolut~on 1621 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon approving the budget for fiscal year 1952-53, was read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Trowbridge that 1621 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon, TrO\lbridge Noes: None Absent: None Resolution 1622 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon authorizing and directing the City Treasurer to transfer monies from the "1911 Municipal Improvement Fundll and the IIAcquisition and Improvement No. 1 Fundtl to the General Fund, \vas read. It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that 1622 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, ~~rlong, Mailliard, Poxon, l~owbridge. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon, Trowbridge Noes: None Absent: None Resolution 1625 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon fixing the compensation for certain employees of said City as of July 1, 1952, and repealing all Resolutions in conflict herewith, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trovmridge that Resolut- ion 1625 be approved and adopted. Motion carried. Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Nailliard, Poxon, Trovlbridge Noes: None Absent: None Ordinance 650 - An Ordinance Of the City of Vernon repealing Ordinance 554 of said city granting a franchise to the Southern California Edison Company and releasing the Maryland Casualty Company from liability on its faithful performance bond was read for a first reading. " It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trovlbridge that Urdinance 650 receive and pass a first reading. Notion carried.
