ihe meeting was called to order by Mayor R.J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
minutes of the meeting of January 6, 19,3 be approved as written and
transmitted. Motion carried.
Communication from Horn-Sullivan Company requesting
permit to conduct a manufacturers' agents warehouse at 2146 E. 37th Street,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the
request of Horn-Sullivan Company be approved and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from Hammel-Dahl Company requesting permit
to conduct an Automatic Control Equipment business at 3~1, Santa Fe Avenue,
was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge seconded by Poxon that the
request of the Automatic Control Equipment ~ompany be approved and permit
granted. Motion carried.
Communication from California Kit Boat Company requesting
permit to conduct a woodworking and machine shop at 2306 E. 38th Street,
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that the
request of the California Kit Boat Company be referred to the Fire Department..
Motion carried.
Communication from Henry J. Korenthal requesting permit
to conduct a business of sales of ready-to-wear clothing at 41+01 Downey
Road, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that the
request of Henry J. Korenthal be approved and permit granted. Motion carried.
Communication from Joseph Gervasi requesting permit to operate
cafe at 2147 E. 49th Street, was read.

of Joseph Gervasi be approved and permit granted. Motion carried~
Communication from United Dressed Beef Company reque~ting
the painting of a pedestrian safety crossing zone on Soto Street at q..q.th
Street, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that thei
request of the United Dressed Beef Company be referred to the Police De~artment
with power to act. Motion carried.

Communication rrom Owens Parks Lumber Company requesting
the painting or pedestrian crosswalk across 38th Street at Ross Street,
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request or Owens Parks Lumber Company be referred to the Police Department
with power to act. Motion carried.
Communication rrom Western Valvanizing Company requesting
curb painting at 2701 S. Soto Street, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request or the Western Galvanizing Company be referred to the Police
Department with power to _ct. Motion carried~
Communication from F. H. Donnelly, Fire Chief ,requesting
permission for himself and Assistant Chief Husted to attend the Southern
California Fire Chief's Association meeting at Oxnard on January 23rd
wi th an expense allowance or $10..00 was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
request of Fire Chief Donnelly be approved. Motion carried.
Communication and report or F.H. Donnelly, Fire Chief,
on fire at Pioneer-Flintkote Company, January 13, 1953.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
report on Pioneer-Flintkote Company fire submitted by the Fire Chief,
be filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Fibreboard Products Company expressing
their appreciation to Fire Chief Donnelly and Assistant Chief Husted for
the training given their plant fire fighting crews, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that the
communication from Fibreboard Products Company be filed. Motion carried~
Report submitted by Mr. Carl A. Heinze Consulting
Engineer, on operation of electrical system by the Southern Calif.ornia
Edison Company for month of November, 1952, was received.
It was moved by poxon, seconded by Anderson that the .
report of the Consulting Engineer be received and filed. Motion carried'.
Communication from American Public Works Association
inviting the City to become a member at an annual tee of $10.00, was read'.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge that the
communication from American Public Works Association be referred to the
City Engineer. Motion carried~
Copy of a communication from Property Owners Division
of the Pasadena Realty Board addressed to the Los Angeles County Board
of Supervisors in regards to smog elimination, was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the copy of communication rrom the Property Owners Division of the Pasadena
Realty Board be referred to Mayor Furlong and City Engineer Hollingworth.
Motion carried.

sent by John B. Moore, Administrative Assistant extending New Yearts
Greetings, was read.

Assistant, with letter of Mallinckrodt Chemical Company attached
requesting the placing of street signs at ~th and Soto Streets,
was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
the request of Mallinckrodt Chemical Company be referred to the
City Engineer with power to act. Motion carried.
Communication from John J3. Moore, Administrative
Assistant, submitting report of Finance aommittee meeting held
January 13, 1953, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that
the report of the Finance Committee be referred to Mayor Furlong,
City Engineer Hollingworth and Administrative Assistant, John B.
Moore. Motion carried.
Communication from G. Paul Huntley, requesting permit
to conduct a business of manufacturers representative at 3715 Santa
Fe Avenue, waS read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon that the
request of G. Paul Huntley be approved, and permit granted. Motion
carried.
Communication from Frank Denkins requesting permit
to wax, polish and glaze automobiles at 201+0 E. Vernon Avenue.
Motion carried.
Communieation from W.B. Hollingworth~ City Engineer,
submitting Plans and Specifications No. 168 for the knstallation of
traffic signals at 55th and Santa Fe Avenue, Fruitland Avenue and
Pacific Boulevard and Slauson and Alcoa Avenues, waS read.
Resolution No. l6lt~ -,A Resolution of the City Council
of the City of Vernon approving Specifications No. 168 and Plans Nos.
B12B-lllt6, B12B-lllt7, and B12B-ll~8 for traffic control Signals at
Santa Fe Avenue and 55th Street, Pacific Boulevard and Fruitland Avenue,
and Slauson Avenue and Alcoa Avenue, was read.

directing the giving of nqtice inviting bids for the furnishing and
installation complete of traffic control signals and accessory equipment
at Santa Fe Avenue and 55th Street, Pacific Boulevard and Fruitland
Avenue, and Slauson Avenue and Alcoa Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that Resol-
1644 be approved and adopted. Motion carried.

Communication and report of W.B. Hollingworth~ City
Engineer on application filed by Atchison Topeka and Santa ~'e Railway
Company for spur track franchise across 26th Street, east of Downey
Road, was read.
Ordinance No. 65'4 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon
granting a franchise to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company,
a corporation, and its successors and assigns, a franchise to construct,
maintain and operate one (1) railroad connecting track upon and across
26th Street in the City of Vernon, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that Ordinance
No. 654 receive and pass a first reading. Motion carried.
Commllllication from F.B. Donnelly, Fire Chief', recommending
that request of Michels Company for a permit to manufacture furniture
items at 1960 E. 48th Street, be granted was read.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard that
the recommendation of Fire Chief Donnelly be approved, and permit granted
to Michels and Company. Motion carried.
The fOllowing excavation applications, all having the
approval of the City Engineer were presented.
Application 17709 -Southern California Gas Company to remove 130 feet
of 3 inch gas main in WIS Santa Fe Avenue, 578 feet
SIO Vernon Avenue.

at 5008 S. Boyle Avenue.
Application 17711 - Southern California Gas Company to abandon gas service
at 2801 Santa Fe Avenue.
Application 17(12 - Pacific Telephone Company to replace 1 pole in NIS
57th Street, 133 ft. E/O Santa Fe Avenue.
Almlication 17713 -Pacific Telephone Company to place 1 ground brace in
N/S 44th Street, 932 feet E/O Boyle Avenue.
Apu1ication 17714 -.. Los Angeles Jllllction Railway Company to replace east-
erly rail in main line track across Leonis BOulevard,
W/O Seville Avenue.
Application 17715 -u. S. Rubber Company to construct driveway, sidewalk
and depressed curb at 46th Street and Soto Street.
Application 17716 - U. S. Rubber Compamy to make sewer connection at 2801
E. 46th Street.
It waS moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge that
excavation applications numbered 17709 to 17716 incl., be filed and permits
granted. Motion carried.
