MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON
HELD AUGUST ll, 1953 AT 2 O'CLOCK P.M. IN
THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF THE CITY HALL
LOCATED AT 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON,
CALIFOHN IA ~
COUNCIL PRESENT: Furlong, Anderson, Poxon, Trowbridge, Mailliard
COUNCIL ABSENT: None
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong pursuant to a motion
of adjournment on August 4, 1953.
Communication from J. B. Moore Administrative Assistant submitting report
of Finance Committee on budget for fiscal year 1953-54, was read.
It vas moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that cOIllJllunication from the
Administrative Assistant together with report of Finance Committee on budget for fiscal
year 1953-54 be received and filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Chief of the Fire Department submitting list of additional
personnel and items needed upon completion of new fire station, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that communication from the
Fire Chief be received and filed. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1679 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon
amending Resolution No. 1673 to more clearly specify classification of the Fire Depart-
ment, was read.
It was' moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that Resolution No. 1679 be
approved and adopted. Motion carried.

It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that Ordinance No. 661 receive
a second reading by title. Motion carried.
Ordinance No. 661 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon regulating the erect-
ion and use of structures for human habitation, was read for a second reading by title.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that Ordinance No. 661
receive and pass a second reading. Motion carried.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that Ordinance No. 661 receive
a third and final reading by title. Mo,tion carried.
Ordinance No. 661 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon reguJa ting the erect-
ion and use of structures for human habitation, was read for a third and final reading
by title.
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that Ordinance No. 661
receive and pass a third reading and be adopted. Motion carried.

Ordinance No. 662 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon fixing the amount of
money necessary to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property within said City as
a revenue to carry on the various departments of such Municipal Corporation for the
fiscal year commencing July 1, 1953, and to pay the bonded or other indebtedness of
said City of Vernon, or any portion or district thereof, was read in full for a first
reading.

Communication from the Vernon Chamber of Commerce together with copy of a
resolution adopted by the Board of Directors of the Vernon Chamber of Co8llerce upon
the occasion of the retirement of Frank H. Donnelly', Chief of the Vernon Fire Department..
was read.
It was moved by' Poxon, seconded by Trowbridge, that c01lln1.Ulication from the
Vernon Chamber of Commerce together with copy of a resolution adopted by the Board of
Directors of the Vernon Chamber ot Commerce upon the occasion ot the retirement of
Frank H. Donnelly, Chief of the Vernon Fire Department, be received and rUed. MotioD
carried.
Communication from the Vernon Chamber ot Co_erce together with copy of a
resolution adopted by the Board of Directors of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce upon the
appointment of L. C.. Husted as Chief of the Vernon Fire Department" was read.
It was moved byPoxon" seconded by Trowbridge" that, communication from the
Vernon Chamber ot Commerce together with copy ot a resolution adopted by the Board of
Directors of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce upon the appointment of L.. C. Husted as
Chief of the Vernon Fire Department, be received and filed. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1681 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon,
approving the budget for the fiscal year 1953-54, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon" that Resolution 10.1681 be
approved and adopted. Motion carried.

There being no further business to come before the meeting" it was moved by
Anderson, seconded by Poxon" that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
