Hollingworth, City Engineer, reporting on the retirement of Harry V. Green, Water Department EmPloyee, together with copy of letter written to Hr. Green thanking him for his loyal services to the City, was read. City Engineer recommends that a Resolution of the City Council in appreciation be given Hr. Green aJ.so. It was moved by Paxon, seconded by Ande.rson, that the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved and communication, together with copy of letter written to Mr. Green, be received and .filed. Motion carried. Resolution No. 1684 - .l Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon honoring Harry V. Green, upon his retirement from the water department of the City of Vernon, was read. Moore, Administrative Assistant, regard- ing a medical plan for the Cityenployees, and recommending that the Mqor appoint a committee of employees, other than department heads, consisting of a representative from each City department, to meet.vith the Administrative Assistant to aid in determining what plan would be most suited to the circumstances, was read. It was moved by' Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that the recommendation of the Administrative Assistant be approved and that the Department Heads be instructed to select a representative from their department to meet with the A.dm:ini.strative Assistant to aid in determining what medical plan would be most suited to the circumstances. Motion carried. Communication was read from L. C. Husted, Fire Chief, su.bmitting Specifications Ho. 17, for a Fire Department pumping engine. It was moved by' Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that Specifications No. 17, for a Fire Department pumping engine be approved. and submitted to the City Attorney for drafting proper Resolutions. Motion carried. Communication from John B. Moore, Administrative Assistant, recommending that the Fire Chief be authorized to investigate the possibilities of obtaining a su.bsitute punper pending delivery of the recently authorized pumper and to report on his invest- igation at the earliest opportunity, was reaQ. It was _ved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the recommendation of the .Administrative A.ssistant be approved and the. matter be referred to the Fire Chief to investigate the possibilities of renting a substitute punper and inqu:iring as to the length of time necessary for delivery of a new pumper. Motion carried. Communication from Walter B. Hollingworth, City Engineer, submitting letter from Chas. P. Morgan & Associates, Ehgineers, requesting an opportunity of d.esiping the storm. drains to be constructed in the City of Vernon under the "County of Los Jngeles Storm Drain Bond Issu.e", was read. City Engineer recommends that communication be filed as plans for these storm. drains have been completed by the Los Angeles County Engineer and the Flood Control District. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the recommendation of the City Engineer be approved and reCJ1est of Chas. P. Morgan & Associates be :rued. Motion carried. Communication from United States Rubber Conpany reCJ1esting a permit to conduct a business of private warehousing for storage and distribution of various products of their Conpany at 2801 East 46th Street, was read. It was moved by Amerson, seconded by Poxon, that the request of United States Rubber Compa:n;r be approved and permit granted. Motion carried. Communication and report from L. C. Husted, Fire Chief, recommending that the request of Canvas Specialty lftg. Co. to operate a storage warehouse for canvas rental equipmenu at 2051 E. 37th Street be approved, was read. It was moved by .Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the recommendation of the Fire Chief be approved and permit granted to Canvas Specialty Co. Motion carried. COmmunication from Walter B. City Ehgineer recommends that the request of Rexford Pre-Pakt Co. be referred to the City A.ttorney as it mq be possible to set forth. conditions and restrictions in a combined use and occupanpy permit and business permit in conjunction with the request of the William J. Moran Co. for a use and occupancy permit that was referred to the City Attorney at the Counon meeting of September 1, 19,3. Ordinance No. 663 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon establishing 35 miles per hour prima facie speed limit on .AJ.ameda Street between 2$th Street and Slauson Avenue in the City of Vernon, was read in full for a first reading.
