MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON

OOUNCIL PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Poxon, Mailliard, Trowbridge.
COUNCIL ABSENT: None
The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon that Ordinance No. 676 receive
a third reading by title. Motion carried.
Ordirwlce No. 676 - An Ordinance of the City of Vernon tixing the amount of
money necessary to be raised by taxation upon the taxable property within said City as
a revenue to carr.r on the various departments of SIlch municipal corporation tor the
fiscal year commencing July 1, 1954, and to PI13' the bonded or other indebtedness of
said City of Vernon, or any portion or district thereot, was read by title tor a third
rea.ding .
It was .moved by Anderson,' seconded by Poxon, that Ordinance No. 676 receive
and pass a third reading and. be adopted.. Motion carried.
Ayes: Anderson, Furlong, Mailliard, Poxon, Trowbridge.

Absent: None
Resolution No. 1771 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vemon
fixing the rate of taxes and levying the taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
1.954, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Trowbridge, that Resolution No. 1771,
be approved and adopted. Motion carried.
Resolution No. 1772 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City ot Vernon
approving work on Bickett Street from 54th Street to the south City boundary of the
City ot Vemon in accordance with Specifications No. 163 and City Engineer's drawings
Plans Nos. BlaD-lllO (1 sb!et) and A3-llll (3 sheets), heretofore approved by the City
Council of the City of Vernon, was read. .
It was moved by Trowbridge, seconded by Mailliard, that Resolution No. 1772
be approved and adopted. Motion carried.
A report was made by City Attomey, Carson B. Hu.bbard., on a coJllllll1lJication
received by him from Guthrie, Darling & Shattuck, Special Attorneys for the Oityof
Vernon in regards to Public Utilities Commission's Decision No. 50449 dated August
17, 1954, in the Southern California Edison Conq:>any rate case, and that the City Coumil
should eJrpress its approval or disapproval of the recomm.endation that the decision be
accepted and that no application be tiled for a rehearing on behalf of the City of Vemon.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the City accept the
decision ot tb! Public Utilities Commission, and that no ~plication be filed for a
rehearing on behalf ot the City of Vemon. Motion carried.
Oopy ot Application 35248 Granting Rehearing before Public Utilities Commission
to the Atchison, Topeka & Sanl;a Fe Railway Conq:>any for a determination as to "Whether the
Los Angeles Transit lines shall be authorized to erect and mintain exenq:>t signs at
crossings at Santa Fe Avenue and 48th Street, and Leonis Boulevard, east ot Pacific
Boulevard, was read.

It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that the order granting re-hear1ng
before the Public Utilities Commission be referred to the City Engineer. Motion carried..

It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that Mr. R. H. King, Sanitation
Engineer, for the City of Vernon, be appointed as a representative of the City of
Vernon at the various metings of the Anerican Water Works Association. Motion carried.
Copy of a communication and report; from Gordon, Knapp and GiU, 453 South
Spring Street, Los Angeles,. to Mr. George B. Gose, Chairman, Citizens Committee on
Sewage Problem., was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that the c01llIll1Ili.cation and
report; of Gordon, Knapp and Gill, be referred to the City Attomey and Special Attomey,
Mr. Ec1ward 11. Young. Motion carried.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the City ~ neer prepare
a report; on the City Dwrp propert;y in the vicinity of 37th street and. Soto Street.
Motion carried.
There being no further business to cone before the meeting, it was moved by
Trowbridge, seconded by Poxon, that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
