Mr. Nort James Jebbe, President of the Long Beach Banana Distributors, Inc., and Mr. Ivar Price of the Law Offices of Latham & Watkins, appeared before the Oit.y Council. and discussed the matter of a building permit on property 'adjoining Consolidated Rock Products Conpany. On motion of Poxon, seconded by Mailliard, it was reguJ.arly moved and carried that the building permit requested by Alexanders Market (Long Beach Banana Distributors, Inc.) in Application No. 19555 of February 25, 1955, be granted upon their pqment of the checking and permit fee and the fumishing to the City an executed copy of a. pro- posal dated May 24, 1955 confirming the rough draft thereof presented to the Hqor at the meet.ing. Franchise report of The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company on Ordinance No. 108 for period ending April 22, 1955, together with check in amunt of $50,617.37" was received. Ii was lOOVed by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that franchise report of The Pacific Telephone and Tel.egraph Conpany be received and filed. Motion carried. CoImmnication and. report from Albert O. CoImmnication from Beverage Distributors, Inc. requesting a permit to con- duct a beverage distributing business at 4599 Pacific Blvd., was read. It was moved by' Poxon, seconded by Mailliard, that request of Beverage Dis:t,ributors, Inc. be referred to the Fire Department with power to act. Motion carried. Communication from Fisher Catering Corporation requesting a permit to operate a food processing plant at 5000 District Blvd., was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that request of Fisher Oater- ing Corporation be referred to the Police Department and the Director of Sanitation with power to act. Motion carried. Communication from Associated Refrigerating Engineers requesting that a. loading zone be established in the vicinity of the northwest comer of 451ih Street and st. Charles Avenue, was read. It was moved by' Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that request of Associated. Refrigerating Engineers be referred to the Police Department with power to act. Motion carried. Hubbard, City .Attomey, in regard to Soutllem California Water Conpany' Agreement, advising that he does not feel at this time that a contract executed by the City is necessary, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by MailHard, that the report of the Oity Attomey, advising that he does not feel that a contract executed by the City is necessary, be approved. Motion carried. Communication from J. D. strople Insurance in regard to Public Eq>>l.oyees Blanket Bond and Public Official Bonds, was read. Husted, Fire Chief, requesting permission to send DoYle L. Farrier to Fresno, Ca.l.if'ornia, to attend the Second Annual Fire Service Instructors' Conf'ere.nce to be held May 23 to 27, 1955, inclusive, with an expense allowance of approximately $96.00, was read. Communication from the los Angeles County Road Department advising that the &JIIOunt of new money allocated to the City of Vernon as Aid to Cities money by the County for the f'iscaJ. year 1955-56 is $2,796.49, was read. Phillips, City Fngineer, submitting a copy or- Change Order Ho. 1. prepared by James M. Montgomery, Consulting Engineer, to modi.f'7 contract for Schedule X, Specifications Ho. 183, entered into with The CJ.aric Controller Conpany, as authorized by the City Council on March 1, 1955, Resolution Ho. 1811" and attaching a letter from Mr. James M. Montgomery expl~in:h'lg the reason for Change Order Ho. 1 at atotaJ. 1ncreased cost of' $376.00" was read. City &1g1neer recommended, subject to approvaJ. as to form by the City Attorney, that Change Order No.1 be approved and be executed by the Cit,y of Vernon.
