It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard, that the minutes ot September 6,
1955 be approved as written and submitted. Motion carried.
Communication trom Carson B. Hubbard, City Attomey, transmitting Notice of
Abandonment executed by the Southem California Water Company to the City of Vemon
covering its franchise rights on 26th Street from Santa Fe Avenue easter:q in the City
of Vemon, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that co1lllllUnication from the

Water Company be received and filed. Motion carried.
Communication from Bell Chamber of Commerce in regard to grade crossing at
26th street and Downey Road, was read.

Communication from Auto Exhaust Control Engineering in regard to latest
development of Exhaust Control Devices for Gasoline & Diesel Powered Vehicles, was
read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that communication from Auto
Exhaust Control Engineering be received. and filed. Motion carried..
Communication trom Rubber Printing Plates, !nc. .requesting a permit to conduct
a business ot manufacturing rubber plates, rubber dies and rubber stanps at 4555 Produce
Plaza West, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard,. that the request of Rubber
Printing Plates, !nc.be referred to the Fire Department 1dth power to act. Motion
carried.
Communication from A. W. Phillips, City Engineer, recommending that Mr. Robert
H. King, Sanitary Engineer, be authorized to attend the annual conterenceof The Calif-
ornia Section of the American Water Works Association in Sacramento on October 25 to 28,
inclusive" 1955, with an ex,pense aJ.1owance of $150.00, was read.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the recommendation ot the
City Engineer be approved. Motion carried.
Communication and report from L. C.Husted" Fire Chief, recommending that
Jacobson's Truck Parts be granted a permit to use the rear ot the property located at
3140E. Washington Blvd. as a storage yard tor trucks, trailers and truck parts, was
read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mailliard, that the recommendation of the
Fire Chief be approved and permit be granted. to Jacobson's Truck Parts. Motion carried.
Communication from Riviera Manufacturing Co., Inc. requesting a permit to
conduct a business of furniture manufacturing at 3876 Santa Fe Avenue, was read.
It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that request ot Riviera Manu-
facturing Co., Inc. be referred to the Fire Department 'With power to act. Motion
carried.

to attend a Conf'erence on Civil Defense and Disaster Preparedness called by the
Govemor of the State of Oalit'omia to be held in Sacramento on October 13 and 14,
1955, with an expense allowance of 1100.00, was read.

Communication and report from .A. W. Phillips, City Engineer, submitting
request of George Miller, Chas. M. King, American Potash & Chemical CoDpany and Hopper
Truck Co. to construct a 12 inch cast iron water main 400 feet long and to place fire
hydrant near the west end of said line in Bandini Boulevard (a private Street) in
accordance with Specifications No. 172 and Plan No. B4B-1l60 under inspection of the
Engineering Dep.a.rtment with no e:xpense to the City of Vemon and wi. th the new pipeline
and appurtenances becoming the property of the City of Vernon upon cODpletion, was read.
(City Engineer recommended that easement grants be accepted by the City of Vemon and
that authority be granted for the applicants to construct the water line and appurt-
enances.)

City Engineer be approved and that authority be granted to the applicants to construct
the waterline and appurtenances subject to obtaining proper engineering permits and
paynent of fees. Motion carried. .
Resolution No. 1857 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vemon
accepting an Easement Grant from George Miller and Madeline M. Miller, to a portion of
Bandini Boulevard in the City of Vernon, was read.

Water Departmen't one-half ton cab and chassis at a net price of $560.32 including
sales tax, was read.

mit'ting a list of recommended standards for caterers' vehicles for oonsideration for
adoption in the form of Counoil Rules and Regulations, was read.

from the Director of Sanitation together with list of recommended standards for cater-
ers' vehioles be received for s'tudy. Motion carried.
Comnmnication and report from J. D. Strople and Sons in regard. to insurance
coverage afforded the City of Vemon under their present policies, suggesting that the
City of Vemon arrange for general liability coverage for its operations and premises,
was read.
It was moved by .Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that comnmnication and report
from J. D. Strople and Sons be referred to the Finance Committee pending reports on
insurance coverage from Mr. Sweeney of the J. R. Molony Conpany and from Mr. Ungles
of Enight & Ungles. MDtion oarried.
Mr. John B. Moore, Adminj strative Assistant, read a communioation from Mr.
Clifford. Herdman of Clifford's Fine Catering offering to furnish a couplete catering
service for 500 peopJ.e for 1350.00 plus sales tax at the dedication and opening of
Fire Station No. 2 on September 30, 1955.
It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon, that the Aihrl'inistrative Assist-
ant be authorized to engage the services of Clifford's Fine Catering and to arrange
for the rental of fifty folding chairs in connection with the dedication and opening
of Fire Station No.2 on September 30, 1955. Motion carried.
