Communication from League of California Cities with reference to Senate Bill No. 59, was read. Communication from County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, with reference to proposed re;fuse collection and disposal system in Sanitation District No. 1, submitting a specimen agreement which leaves the collection activity entireJ.;y with- in the purview of city and County, and the District having no control whatsoever over how, or to what extent" the City engages in the activity or through what agency it conducts it,~was read. It was IOOved by Anderson, seconded by Malburg, that communication from County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County with reference to proposed refuse collection and disposal system in Sanitation District No. l, together with specimen agreement, be referred to the Engineering Department, the City Attorney and the Director of Sanitation. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Poxon, that Resolution No. 1912 be approved and adopted. Bockhacker, Police Chief, requesting that a resolution be drawn up which would give the Police Department authority to post the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Boulevard with a "No Le.rt Tumtt sign for south bound traffic on Santa Fe Avenue to facilitate the movement of traffic during peak hours, was read. Resolution No. 191.3 - A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Vemon authorizing the Police Department of the City of Vemon to place a "No Le.rt Turn" sign at the intersection of Pacific Boul.evard. and Santa Fe Avenue in the City of Vernon" was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon" that Resolution No. 1913 be approved and adopted. Communication from L. C. Husted, Fire Chief" advising that Robert R.Morasse has satisfactori~ completed his probationary period, and requesting permission to advance him from Hoseman Class 4 to Class 3, effective .April 16, 1956, was read. Barnett, Consulting Engineer, with reference to the pro- posed tel.ephone switchboard installation, sUbmitting proposals for constructing par- tition in lobby, for performing necessary electrical work and for installation of switchboard, was read. The Director of Bani tation .. and Consulting Ehgineer Barnett reoommended that the PBX switchboard and inoidentaJ. oonstruction be authorized in accordanoe with said proposals, together with purchase of neoessary office furniture and equipment. Barnett, Consulting Engineer, re- questing authority to dismantle Olynpic houses 8 and 9 with oity forces and to salvage the material, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by MailHard, that the request of Consulting Engineer Barnett be approved. Motion carried. Communioation from State Water Pollution Control. Board transmitting a oompli- mentary copy of Publication No. 13 titled "General Features of .A.lgal Growth in Sewage Oxidation Ponds", was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Mail1iard, that copy of Publication No. 13 transmitted by State Water Pollution Control Board be referred to Mayor Furl.ong. Motion oarried. Board transmitting a conpli- mentary oopy of Publication No. 14 titled tf.An Investigation of the Efficacy of Submarine Outfall Disposal of Sewage and Sludgett, was read. Communication from Mr. Fred Hurley requesting permission to take vacation l.eave commencing Mondq, May 14, l.956, was read. Comnnmication from Mr. Francis Bates with reference to the recaJ.culation of allowances of those members previously retired as provided in amended contract between City of Vemon and the State Enpl.oyeesl Retirement System., effective April 1, 19,6, was read. It was moved by Paxon, seconded by Mailliard, that communication from Mr. Francis Bates be received and fil.ed. Motion carried. Communication from Sanders Inspection Service requesting a permit to operate a metals cleaning & processing business at 2306 E. 48th Street, was read. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Malburg, that request of Sanders Inspection Service be referred to the Engineering Department with power to act. Motion carried. Report of the police activities from March 16 to 31, 19,6, inclusive, was presented. Engineer, with reference to proposed contract for termite control in residential houses, garages and automobile repair shops, recommending that approvai be given for the City of Vernon to enter into a formaJ. contract with the low bidder, City Termite COllpany-, Incorporated, to cover the initiaJ. work and the annuaJ. yearly maintenance work as outlined, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Poxon" that the Engineering Department be instructed to have the City Termite Company-, Incorporated separate the construction items from the service items, and that when this information is received by the Engineer- ing Department that the matter be raterred to the City Attorney for the preparation of a fomaJ. contract to cover initial work and the annual yearly maintenance work. Motion carried. Communication from County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County trans- mitting resolutions to be adopted by the City' Council. of the City of Vernon consenting to the annexation of a portion of the City to County Sanitation District No.1 and another portion of the City to County Sanitation District No.2, was read. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Paxon, that resolutions transmitted by County Sanitation Districts of les Angeles County be laid over until. the next regular meeting of the City Council.. It was moved by Poxon, seconded by Anderson, that communication from Consult- ing Engineer Barnett, together with communication from County. of les Angeles Road Department, be referred to the City Attorney for drafting a resolution requesting the money which is available for the City of Vernon's use in making the preliminary surveys for grade separations. Motion carried. Police Chief Bockhacker made a verpal request for permission to send Officer J. C. Jordan to the les Arge1es County Sheriff's Trai.ning Center for six weeks of police training.
