19681126 Regular City Council Meeting - Minutes I I MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON HELD NOVEMBER 26, 1968 AT NINE O'CLOCK A.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE CITY HALL LOCATED AT 4305 SANTA FE AVENUE, VERNON, CALIFORNIA. COUNCIL PRESENT: Anderson, Furlong, Mai11iard, Malburg, Ybarra COUNCIL ABSENT: None The meeting was called to order by Mayor R. J. Furlong. It was moved by Mai11iard, seconded by Ybarra, that minutes of the meeting of November 19, 1968 be approved as written and submitted. Motion carried. Communication from L. C. Husted, Fire Chief, and V. R. Bush, Superintendent of Building, dated November 19, 1968, transmitting a request from Western Kraft Corporation for a variance or exception from Sections 505 and 506 of the Uniform Building Code, and recom- mending that the request of Western Kraft Corporation to eliminate the area separation wall be granted, was read. (Copy to each member of the City Council) It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Mailliard, that the recommendation of the Fire Chief and the Superintendent of Building, dated November 19, 1968, be approved. Motion carried. Communication from Commerce Plant Security Inc. requesting a license to conduct a private patrol business in the City of Vernon, TJ7as read. It was moved by Mailliard, seconded by Ybarra, that the request of Commerce Plant Security Inc. be referred to the Police Department with power to act. Motion carried. Communication from R. H. Bockhacker, Police Chief, dated November 22, 1968, advising that Officer J. B. Savage has tendered his resignation effective as of the close of business on December 7, 1963, was read. It was moved by Malburg, seconded by Ybarra, that the resignation of Officer J. B. Savage be accepted. Motion carried. Communication from R. H. Bockhacker, Police Chief, dated November 22, 1968, requesting authority to employ R. D. Adams and G. O. Thalman as Policement Grade 4, effective as of December 1, 1968, was read. It was moved by Malburg, seconded by Mailliard, that the request of the Police Chief, dated November 22, 1968, be approved. Motion carried. Communication from John and Pat's Catering requesting a license to operate a lunch truck in the City of Vernon, was read. It was moved by Ybarra, seconded by Anderson, that the request of John and Pat's Catering be referred to the Fire Department with power to act. Motion carried. ~.;, .f ".~~JL I I -2- 11/26/68 Communication from Sterwin Chemicals Inc. requesting a license to conduct a business of warehousing and distribution at 3380 E. 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Ybarra, seconded by Anderson, that the request of Sterwin Chemicals Inc. be referred to the Building Depart- ment with power to act. Motion carried. Communication from Hilton Davis Chemical Co. requesting a license to conduct a business of warehousing and distribution at 3380 E. 26th Street, was read. It was moved by Ybarra, seconded by Anderson, that the request of Hilton Davis Chemical Co. be referred to the Building Department with power to act. Motion carried. Copy of Resolution No. 9702 of the City Council of the City of National City, State of California, urging and encouraging legis- lators of the United States and the State of California and appro- priate governmental officials to seriously consider closing the United States-Mexican border to American minors, seeking entry to Mexico, unless said minors are accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult and relating to the curtailment of the narcotics, marijuana and dangerous drug problem in California and the City of National City, was presented. It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Ybarra, that copy of Resolution No. 9702 of the City Council of the City of National City, State of California, be received and filed. Motion carried. Communication from Hagman Enterprises requesting a license to conduct a business of manufacturing rehabilitation equipment for physical and mental therapy at 5051 Santa Fe Avenue, was read. It was moved by Ybarra, seconded by Anderson, that the request of Hagman Enterprises be referred to the Building Department with power to act. Motion carried. At this t~e, 9:15 o'clock a.m., Mayor Furlong called the City Council into executive session pursuant to Section 54957 for the purpose of hearing employees' complaints. All persons, with the exception of the City Clerk, the City Attorney and the employees presenting the complaints on behalf of a certain group of employees, were excluded from the executive session. The City Council met in executive session with repre- sentatives of a certain group of employees, and listened to their complaints. Mayor Furlong ordered that communications to and from the executive session were deemed private. There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was moved by Anderson, seconded by Ybarra, that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried. Attest: ~ F. A.
