MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON,
HELD AUGUST 9, 1978, AT FOUR O'CLOCK,
P. M., IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE
CITY HALL, LOCATED AT 4305 SANTA FE
AVENUE VERNON CALIFORNIA

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malburg.

Mayor Malburg declared a recess at 4:05 o'clock, p. m.,
At 4:24 o'cloc k p. m., the City Council reconvened session, same
members as indicated above being present.
It was moved by McCormick, seconded by Gonzales, that the hearing
in the matter of Officer Larry Stone be continued until 4:00 o'clock p. m., on
September 13, 1978. Motion carried.
At this time, 4:30 o'clock p. m., it was moved by Kaeser, seconded
by Gonzales, that the City Council go into executive session in accordance
with Attorney/Client privilege. Motion carried.
All persons, with the exception of the City Clerk, and the City Attorney
were excluded from the executive session.

Mayor Malburg ordered that all communications to and from the
executive session were deemed private.
At this time, 6:45 o'clock p. m., it was moved by Kaeser, seconded
by Gonzales, that the City Council go out of executive session and resume
regular session. Motion carried.
It was moved by McCormick, seconded by Gonzales, that the com-
munication from Richard Silber, Attorney for Fire Fighters Local =H=2312,
dated August 9, 1978, be received and filed. Motion carried.
It was moved by Gonzales, seconded by Kaeser, that Acting Fire Chief
Bass and the Acting Administrative Battalion Chief are authorized to suspend,
without pay, any fireman who violates any State Law, City Ordinance, City
Resolution, Departmental Rule or Regulation, or disobeys any order given by a
superior officer. Motion carried.

It was moved by McCormick, seconded by Kaeser, that Bruce V.
Malkenhorst, M. E. R. R. for the City of Vernon, be authorized that all state-
ments made on behalf of the City to the news media, must receive prior approval
of the M. E. R. R. Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the City Council, it was
moved by McCormick, seconded by Kaeser, that the meeting adjourn.
