It was mved by McGonnick, seconded by Gonzales, that the minutes of .the City council. Heeting held July 21, 19~1, be approved as written and submitted. Motion carried. Parcel Hap No. 14055 for subdivision of land owned by ::,'wift and Canpany into two 'Oarcels, was presented. (Deferred fran July ll, 1981. Council Meeting.) It was moved by McCo:r:mi.ck, seconded by Gonzales. that this matter be deferred until the regular City Cotmcil Meeting, August l~, lY81. }'f.otion carried. At this time, :>:Ou o'clock, p.m., the City Council reconvened in regular session, all nenbers present before the recess, again being present. Police Depart:Irent Activity Log tor the period July 16, through JUly 31, lY8l, was presented. It was moved by McConnick, seconded by Davis, that the Police Department Activity Log for the period July 16, throusm July 31, 19~1, be received and filed. Motion carried. Councilman Davis abstained. ~ Payroll Warrant Register No. 291. covering claims and demands presented during the period June z8, 1981 to July 11, 19~1, which includes Demand Nos. 3::s07 to 3::sl4 (both inclusive,), drawn on the Crocker National Bank, totaling $l45, 05~. 81, (Accounting Period July, 1~8l) was examined and audited. It was lIDVed by McCormick, seconded by Gonzales, that ~rJarrant l<egister No. 2~1, be approved and payment authorized for Demand Nos.. 3307 to 3314 (both inclusive), with no exceptions. Motion carried. Camumication fran Bruce V. Malkenhorst, City Acin:i.ni.strator, dated August b, 1~8l, recannending that Peter S. M..ilutinovich, owner of Frank's Cafe, be ccmnended for his many years of service to the residents of the City of Vernon, was presented. It wss lIDVed by Gonzales, seconded by Davis, that the recannendation of the City Administrator be approved and that a resolution be adopted cannending Peter S. Milutinovich for his many years of service to the residents of the City of Vernon. Motion carried. REsOLuTION NO.4831 - A Kesolution of the City Council of the City of Vernon Paying Tribute to Peter S. :M..ilutinovich The Proprietor Of Frank's Cafe For Its Many Years Of Service To The Citizens Of The City of Vernon, was presented. Jr., of Huntington Park requesting aut support of the Bookston Initiative. which calls for mandatory sentencing on robbery and ou:rglarv offenses, by way of a Resolution of the City of Vernon. was presented. It was lIDVed by Davis, seconded by McConnick. that the request of Mayor Herbert A. Hennes, Jr. of Huntington Park, be approved and that a resolution be adopted supporting the Bookston Initiative increasing the tenns of punishment for the cri.n:es of robbery and burglarv. Motion carried. This is being requested in order to construct a property line opening to an adjacent building at 3131 Bandini .1:S1vd. This OPening shall provide needed additional space and roan for their expansion. This reccmnendation is based on the conditions be adhered to in Victor Vaits letter to A1.rey-Thanpson canpany of July 13, 19'61, was presented. It was nx:wed bv Gonzales, seconded by McConnick, that the reCClllIle1Jl!iation of the City Adni.nistrator be approved, and that a vanance fran the 1979 Unifonn Building Code be granted to the Ai:rey-Thcnpson Canpany, as requested. Motion carried. At this ti.Ire, 5:22 o.clock, p.m., it was moved by C-onzales, seconded by Davis, that the CJ..ty Cotmcil go into executive session, tmder Attorney/ Client privilege. Motion carried. Councilman Davis was excused at this time. ALl persons with the exception of the City Administrator, City Attorney, Lewis Adams, Arnold Fieldman and Baker G. Clay. were excluded fran the executive session. Mavor Pro tern Ybarra, declared all ccmnunications to and fran the executive session deemed private and confidential. At this time, 6: 20 0 I clock, p.m., it was moved by Gonzales, seconded by McCormick, that the City Council go out of executive session and resume regular session. Motion carried. Councilman Davis resuned his seat on the City Council at this time. It was moved by McCormick, seconded by ('"onzales, that authority and funds be granted for Bruce V. Malkenhorst, C~ty Administrator and David B. Brearley, City Attorney to attend a meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the Nevada Power Canpany to discuss purchasing interruptible energy, August 7 and 8, 1981. MOtion carried. Councilman Davis abstained. It was moved by Gonzales, seconded by McCormick that authority and appropriate funds be granted to the Members of the City Council, City Adni.nistrator. City Attorney and Departmel'lt Heads to attend the 83rd Annual Conference of the League of California Cities, uctober 17 to October 20,1981. in San Francisco. California. Motion carried.
