means every automobile, stage, auto stage, and every other motor
propelled vehicle owned, controlled. opera_ted or managed for
publio use in the transportation of per sane for compensation over

It shall be unlawful for any person or
corporation, their lessees, trustees, receivers or trustees
appointed by an;y court w:hatsoever, to operate, or callse to be
operateo, any jitney bue for the tr~nsport8tion of persons for
comepen~a1; ion on an~T :public street in the C:i.ti1 of Vet'non.

Every officer. a;:;ent. or ernl'lo~!ce of any

of:' this ol'ainance shall be deemed guilty of [l r.1isdeL1eanor ana
11])On conviction thereof shall be plmishable by a :fine not exceed-

duly and regularly appointed. q~alified and acting Marshal of
the City o~ Vernon; that on the 16th day of January, 1918,
at the request of T. J. ]\urlong. the duly 3itd regu.larly elected I
qualified and acting Clerk of the City of Vernon, I posted true
and oorrect copies of Ordinance l~o. 196 of the Cit:y of Vernon,
entitled I1An ordinance prohibiting the operatiun of Jitney buses
on the 'public streets in the City of Vernon,lt in three at" the
moat public plnces in the City of Vernon, to-wit; one Qt the
main entrance to the regular meeting place of the Board of
Trllstees of sciid city at the northW8Gt corner of 38th and
In'ing streets; one at the northwest corner of 38th street and
S,;,nta Pe avejJue; and one at the northwest corner of Vernon and
Santa Fe avenues.
That there waS not at the time, nor is there now, a news-
pSl"ler of general circulation published and circu.lated in the
City of Vernon.
