An Ordinance granting to the Southern Pacific Company, the
right. privilege and per.miseion to lay and construct a railroad spur
tr~ck in the City of Vernon.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon do ordain as
follows:
Section 1.
That the right. privilege and permission be,
and the same is hereby granted to the Southezn Pacific Railroad
Company, a corporation, its successors and assigns, to lay, construct,
maintain and operate a railroad spur track on Center Avenue, in the
City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California, between
the points hereinafter described to wit:-
TRACK NO. 1
FIRST: Beginning at a point in the northerly line of
Center Ave., in the City of Vernon, alao the southerly line of
the A. G. Newton 7.71 acre tract aa recorded in Book 11 of Mapa,
Page 136, of Los Angeles County, said point being distant 130.45
teet, measured N. 890 49' East along said northerly line of Central
Avenue from the southwest corner of said A. G. Newton tract;
thence
easterly along a curved line concave to the north, having a radius
of 288.0 feet, whose tangent at point ot beginning makes an angle
to the southeast of 250 05' 01" with said northerly line of Center
Ave.~ a distance of 61.73 feet to a point in the southerly line
of Center Ave.; thence continuing easterly along last described
course acrOBS private property a distance of 128.71 feet to a point
in aaid southerly line of Center Ave.; thence continuing norhheasterly
along last described course a distance of 17.58 feet to a point;
thence northeasterly along a straight line, tangent to last described
course, a distance of 11.2 feet to a point in said northerly line of
Center Avenue.

SECOND: Beginning at a point in the easterly line of said
A. G. Newton tract, said point being distant 8.6 feet, measured
northerly along said easterly line of the A. G. Newton tract from the
southeast corner of said A. G. Newton tract; thence easterly on
Center Avenue along a line parallel with and distant northerly at
right angles 28.39 feet from southerly line of Baid Center Avenue
a distance of 868.5 feet, more or lees, to a point; thence along
a curved line concave to the south, having a radius of 286.75 feet
and tangent to last described course, a distance of 130.5 feet,
more or less, to a point of intersection with said southerly line
of Center Avenue.
TRACK No. 2:
Beginn.lng at a point in the center line of track No. I.
as hereinbefore described, Baid point being distant 270.0 feet, more
or less, measured easterly along said center line of tr~ck Noll
from intersection with the easterly line of the A. G. Newton tract;
thence easterly along a straight line, making an angle of 10 37'
to the southeast with said center line of track No. I, a distance
of 16 feet; thence soutbeaaterly along a curved line concave to
the south, baving a radius of 385.67 fset and tangent to last des-
cribed course, a distance of 44.07 feet; thence continuing 9outh~
easterly along a straight line tangent to last described course a
distance of 15 feet; thence continuing southeasterly along a
curved line concave to the south. having a radius of 239.17 feet and
tangent to last described course. a distance of 77.5 feet. more or
less to point of intersection with the Bouth line of said Center
Avenue.
Section 2. That the Bpur track which may be laid and
constructed under the privilege hereby granted shall correspond
to the official gr~de of the street aCroSS or along which it may
be placed. as now established by said City of Vernon; the tops of
the ra.11a to be flush with the surrounding surface of the street

and 1n the event euch street shall be graded, paved or otherwise im-
proved under the authority ot said City ot Vernon, then such .pur track
over or upon such streot and the ground tor a distance ot two (2) teet
on each side thereof, shall be by grantee, or its assigns made to con-
form to said grade, and shall be so maintained by s~id grantee. its
successors or assigns, with the tops of said roi Is fluah with the
surface of said street.
Section 3.
The right, irivilege and permission hereby
granted shall be exercised and enjoyed subject to the following
cond1 t ions:
1st; That no cars or locomotives shall be ~ermitted at any time
to stand upon the streets occupied by said spur track except during
the time actually employed in switching, loading or unloading cars
placed thereon, and that said epur track ehall at all times be used
so as to obstruct the use ot said streets and alleye by vehicles
or passengers as little as possible consistent with the uses tor which
aaid spur track 1s to be constructed:

2nd~ That said grantee, its successors and assigns, shall con-
struct all necessary flumes and culverts for the passage of water
under said track whenever or wherever neceBs~ry. and that all such
flumes or culverts shall be constructed in accordance with the plans
and specifications therefor, approved by the City Engineer of the
City ot Vernon:
3rd: That said grantee. its successors and assigns. will plank
and replank. g ravel and regravel. pa.ve and repave a.ll portions of the
street occupied by said spur track, and for a distance ot two (2)
feet on each side thereof with the same material and under the same
specifications and in the same manner as said streets and alleys are
now. or may hereafter be planked or replanked. gr~veled or regraveledl
paved or repaved. a~d that all such work shall be done under the
instructions ot, and to the satistaction of the Board ot Truestees
of the City ot Vernon:

4th: Thc.t any neglect. failure or refusal on the part of the
grantee, its successors and assigns, to observe or comply with any
of the terms or conditions in thie Ordinance contained shall effect
a forfeiture of the right, privilege and permission hereby granted,
and the said city, by its Board of Trustees, may thereupon declare such
rights and privileges forfeited, and may exclude said grantee, its
successors and assigne, from any further use of the streets and alleys
occupied by said spur track, and the grant hereby m1de sh~ll thereupon
become and remain null, void and of no e tfect.
5th: That the City of Vernon expressly reserves the right to
pave, macadamize, sewer, or repave, remacadamize or reaewer said
street across vmich the right to construct said railroad spur track
is hereby granted, and to pay gas, water and other pipes therein,
such work to be done so aa to injure said railroad as little as
possible.
Section 4. That sa1d railroad company ehall at the time said
spur truck is constructed, construct a croBsing across, in and along
said Alameda street at the place of crossing extending two feet from
the rails, the same class of pavement aa the rest of the street, eo
etB to make a good and sufficient crossing for teams and wagons, and
it and its successors fmd assigns uhall at all times while said spur
track is maintained, maintain said crOSSing in like good manner ~nd
failing therein the said City of Vernon shall have the right to
construct said crossing and maintain the same, and said railroad
company, its successors or assigns, Shall pay to the City whatever
amount it Bh~ll have expended to such construction and maintenance.
Section c. The City Clerk shall certify to the passange of
this Ordiance. and Bhall cauBed the same to be printed and paBted
as required by law.
