An ordinance granting to the Southern Pacific Company, the
right, privilege and permission to lay and construct a railroad spur
traok in the City of Vernon:
The Board of Trustees of the City of Vernon do ordain as
follows:

Section 1. that the right. privilege and permission be.
and the same is hereby granted to ths Sou~lern Paoific Railroad
Company, a oorporation, its suocessors and assigns, to lay, oonstruct.
maintain and operate a railroad ~ur track on Santa Fe Avenue, in the
City of Vernon, County of Los Angeles, State of California,between
the painte hereinafter desoribed to wit:-
Beginning at a point in the westerly line of Santa Fe Avenus,
dietant 8outherly, thereon 32 feet, more or les6, from its intersection
with the westerly prolongation of the southerlY line of Fruitland Road;
thence northeasterly aeroes Santa Fe Avenue a distance of 83 feet, more
or less, to a point in the easterly line of Santa Fe Avenus, distant
southerly thereon 16 feet~ more or lees, rrom the 30atheaat corner of
Santa Fe Avenue and Fruitland Road.
Seotion 2. That the spur track which ~ be laid and
oonstructed under the privilegs hereby grantsd shall correepond
to the official grade of the street across or along which it may
be placed, as now established by Said City of Vernon; the tops of
the rails to be flush with the surrounding eurface of the street
and in the evsnt suoh street shall be gra4ed, paved or otherwise im-
proved under the authority of Said City of Vernon. then ouCh spur
track over or upon such street and the ground for a distance of two
:.et on eaCh side thereot. shall be by grantee, or its assigns made
to oonform to eaid grade. and shall be sO maintained by said grant.e,
its sucoessors and assigns, with the tops of said rails flush with
the surface ot said street.

Section 3. The right, privilege and permission hereby
granted shall be exercised and enjoyed subject to the following
oondi tions.
1st: That no Oars or locomotives shall be permitted at aQy time
to stand upon the streets occupied by Baid epur track except during
the time aotually employed in switching, loading or unloading Care
placed thereon. and that said spur track shall at all times be used
so as to obstruct the use of said streets and alleys by vehicles
or passengers as little as possible consistent with the uses for whiCh
said spur track is to be constructed.
2nd: That said grantee, ita Buocessors and assigns. shall con-
struct all neoessary flumes and culverts for the passage of water
under Baid traok whenever or wherever necessary, and that all BUCh
flumes or culverte shall be constructed in Accordance with the plans
and specifications therefor, approved by the city Engin.er of tho
Ci ty of V.rnon.
3rd: That said grantee, its sucoessors and aseigns, will plank
and replank, grsvel and regravel, pave and repave all portions of the
street occupied by said spur track. and fcr a distance of two (2)
feet on each side thereof with the same material and under the aamB
specifications and in the same manner aa said streets and al-
leys are now, or m~ hereafter be ~lanked or replanked, graveled or
regraveled, paved or repaved, and that all such work shall be done
under the instructions of. and to the satisfaction of the EOQrd of
Trustees of the City Of Vernon.
4th: That any neglect, failure or rsfusal on the part of ths
grantee, its BUccesaors and assigns, to observe or comply with any
of tbe terms or conditions whicii this ordinance contains shall effect
a forfeiturs of the right, privilegs and permission hereby granted,
and the said City, by its Board of Trustees, may thereupon declars
suah right. and privileges forfeited, and may exclude said grantee,
its successors and assigne, from any further use of the streets and
alleye 0001;,.4 by said spur track, and the grant hereby made shall
thereupon become and remain null, void and of no effect.
