Seotion 1. It shall be unlawful for any psxson,

a.ssocia.tion of persons or" corporation to conduct, or assist in
9
conducting, any brewery in the City of Vernon uuless by auth-
ority of a wr1tten permit of the C1ty Council of the C1ty of
Varnon. and no permit issued under this ordinance shall be
transferrable exoept with the consent or the City Council.

Section 2. Permit to conduct a brewery -Rill bs
issusd by the City Counc11 only upon the written application
of any persoD. for himself or on behalf of a.ny ~8soaiation of
per-aa_ or corporatloll_ Every such written applioation f"or
a peXIllit ehall be presented to the City Council and shall set
forth the following fact.:
(a)
The name ....d reddencs of the applicant
or applicant., and, if the applics.nt be
& firm, tbe names and residences ot 1he
partners thereof; if the applicant be an
aseaciation, the n~s and residenoes of
the officers the~eof; and if the applicant
be a oorp~ation. the namea and residences
ot the officers and directors thereof.
(b) The place where euch brewery is to be
located. giving the lot and block. to-
~ether with the .treet number tOOl'eot.
said City Council, before issuing any per-
mit to conduct a brewery, w111 first
satiefy itself that said brewery will com-
port with the pub~ic welfare. the Charaoter.
reputation and mara~ fitness of those who
w111 b" in charge of it, and any other
taria a%" evt.denoe te!tdiDg to enl.ighten
said Counoil in th1s reBpec~.
Section 3. ~ihen the City Council Bhal~ issue a ~e~-
mit under the tarID.a of this ordinance the same may be revoked
at any t 1me thereafter by se.1d City Council if said Council

becames s..t1of1ed that e&1d brewery has been conducted in an
illegal manner.
Section 4. For the purpose ot this ordinance. a
brewery 1s defined to be a place .....here. beer', mal:t. or ale,
or ingredients for the lll&k1ng of beer, malt or ale, are .....nu-
factured. to be used for beverage purposes where the alcoholic
content thereot by volume is greater than one-fourth ot ODe
per cent.
Section 5. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Polioe
and police offioers of the City of Vernon. in addition to their
several duties, to inspect any b:r'ewery in the City of Vernon and
take samples of the beverages so manufaotured therein. for the
purpose ot ascertaining if .aid beverage is made cotttrary to
this ordinance..
Section 6. Any person, a8soc1a~1on of persoDs or
oorporation who shall violate &Qy ot the provisions of tbis
ordinance ahall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and. upon:
conviction shall be punishable by a :rine not ex:ceeding 'l'hree
Hundred ($300.00) Dollars, or by 1mprisottment in the City
Jail of the City of Vernon or the County Jail or the COWlty of
LOB Angeles. at the disoret ion of the committing magistrate,
for a period not 8XQeeding ninety (90) days, or by both s""h
fine a.nd imprisonment.
Section 1. lJ:here being no newspaper of general.
c:lreulation printed, publiehed and circulated in the City of
Vernon. the City Clerk 10 hereby direoted to cert ify to the
passage of this Ordinance. and shall post same, or cause . same
to be posted, in three of the moat public p1aoea in said City,
to-wit: at the northweet corner of 38th Street and Santa 7e
Avenue; at the oorthwest oorner od 37th Stxeet and Santa Ye
Avenue;. and at the' entrance to the City Hall., 4~05 Sa.nta Fe
