AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION IN THE CITY OF VERI,ON
4 OF ONE ADDITIONAL ZONE INTO WHICH ARE SEGREGATED CERTAIN IN-
DUSTRIES OR BUSINESSES THA.T MAY BE CARRIED ON IN THE CITY OF
5 VERNON IN SAID DISTRICT OR ZONE, PROHIBITING THE CARRYING ON
OF THE SAME IN ANY OTHER PORTION OF THE CITY, AND PRESCRIBING
6 PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLA.TION OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS OR-
DINANCE.

8 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

S.ction 1: That, to prot.ot the public h.alth,
safety and general welfare of the citizens of the City o~
Vernon, and giving consider.tion to the character of the prop-
erty, its peculiar suitability for particular use, and the

conservation or property values, a portion 01' the City of
Vernon hereinafter described shall be known as Zone No.6,

wher.in certain particular business.s or o.lling. are eegr.-
gated from other portions of the City, and outside of whioh
is prohibited the carrying on of those o.rtain particular

businesses or callings.
Section 2: DEFINITIONS. C.rtain words in this
ordinance are hereby d.fined for the purpose of this ordinance.
111 words used in the ~resent tense shall include the future
tense; all words in the plural number shall include the sin~-
lar number, and all words in the singular number shall include

Section 3: It shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or oorpo ration , either as owner, agent, amployee or
otherwise, to establish, oonduct or maintain, or cause or

metal junk business within the city of Vernon except in
Zone N:. 6, which is described as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of the oenter
line 0 f Santa Fe Avenue with the production easterly of'
the southerlY line of Lot 4, Traot No. 6402, as par map
recorded in Book 69, at Page 87 of Maps, reoords of the
County of Los Angeles, thence along the production
eesterly of and the southerly Une of said Lot 4 and
along the production westerly thereof, westerly to an
intersection with the westerlY line of said Tract No.
6402; thence along the westerly line ot said Tract No. 6402
and Tract No. 5562, as shown on map recorded in
Book 61 at Page 22 or ~mps, records of said County of
Los Angeles, and along the produotion northerly thereof,
northerlY to the northerly boundary line of the City of
Vernon; thence along said City boundary 11n.) easterly
to an intersection with the easterly line or Lot 14,
Block 12 of the H. M. Ames Sub. of the Glassell Traot,
as per map recorded in Book 23 at Page 73 of Misce~-
laneous Reoords of said County of Los Angeles; thenoe
along the eaaterly line of said Lot 14 and the produc-
tion southerly thereof and along the easterlY line of
Lot 15, said Block 12 and the produotion southerly
thereof, southerly to the center line of East 26th
Street; thence along the center line of East 26th street,
westerly to the center line of Santa Fe Avenue; thence
along the center line of Santa Fe Avenue, southerly to
the point of beginning. "
Section 4: NothitJE'in this ordinance shall be con-
strued to affeot the business of persons using scrap or
second hand metal, either by itself or in oombination with
other metals to be remelted upon the premises, nor shall any-
thing in this ordinance be construed to arfeot the sale of
any scrap or second hand metal accumulating as a result of
manufaoturing or obsolesoence in any other business what so-
ever in the city of Vernon.
Seotion 5: All persons, firms or corporations
noW engaged in the metal junk business and holding a valid,
unrevoked permit and license in the city of Vernon, outside

oonduct and operate said business; prOVided, however, that
in the event said land now ocoupied ror such calling or
business has been abandoned for a period: of six months or

Seotion 6: The offioial zoning map hes been prepared
in duplicate, setting forth eech zone upon a map of the City of
Vernon, one oopy of whioh is in the offioe of the City Clerk
and one copy in the 0 trice 0 f the 01 ty Engineer. The City
Engineer shall have charge ot all changes in the official zon-
ing map, and the City Clerk shall report to the City Engineer
all changes as they are provided for by amendments duly passed
by the City Council within two days from the tline they become
effective.

Section 7: This ordnance does not change, alter
or in any way aff'ect the building ordinanoes or the fire preven-
tion ordinances of the City of Vernon.
Seotion 8: This ordinanoe does not change, alter
or in any way affect Ordine,noe No. 447 of the C1 ty o:f Vernon.
Section 9: Any person, firm or corporetion viOleting
any of the provisions of this act shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable
by a fine of not to exceed chree Hundred ($300.00) Dollars, or
by imprisonment in the City Jail of the City of Vernon, or in
the County Jail of the County of Loe Angeles, for a period of
time not to exoeed thre6 (3) months, or by both suoh fine end
imprisonment. Eaoh of such -persons, firms or corporations shall
be deemed guilty ot a separate offense for each twenty-~our
hours during which such vio1atlon is permitted to exist.
Seotion 10: All ordinanceS or parts of ordinanoes
of the City of Vernon in conflict with any part of this or-
dinance ara hereby repealed. If any seotion; ~ub-seotion,
sentenoe, olause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason

Seotion 11: There being no newspaper of general
oironlation printed, published end oirculated in the City
of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby direoted to oertify to
the passage of this Ordinance, and shall post same, or cause
same to be posted in three of the most pubUo places in seid
City, to-wit: at the northwest corner of 38th street and
Santa Fe Avenue; at the northwest corner of 37th street and
Santa Fe Avenue; and at the entrance to the City Hall, 4305
Santa Fe ...\.venue, in said City; that this Ordinance shall be
in full foroe and effect from and after the date of posting.
