THE CITY COtlJiCIL OF TEE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1: To promote the public health, safety and
general welfare, and giving consideration to the charaater of
the property, its peculiar SUitability for particular use, and
the conservation of property values. a portion of ths city of
Vernon is hereby divided into eight zonee (wher'ein Bome of said
zones Overl&~)t wherein certain particular bueinesees or call-
ings are Begrega~ed and may be carried on in the zone designated
for euch business or ca.l.ling, a.nd not otherwiee, 1n said City.
Seotion~: DEFINITIONS. Certain wcrds in this
ordinance are hereby defined for the purpose of this ordinance.
All worde used in the ~eaent tense 6hal~ include the ruture
tense; all words in the plural number shell inClude the singular
number, and &11 words in the singular number shall include the
plural number.
Sla~hter_Ho~e Business. Slaughter house business
ehall be deemed to mean the business of slaughtering animals
and preparing them for sal.e for human consumption.
Packi~ HOUDe Business. Packing house business shall
be deemed to mean the businllss of slaugbter'ing anima.l.s and dress-
ing and preFaring the produete of their oarcasses for food or
other commercial purposes.
Feed yard_~sines~. Fesd yard business shall be
deemed to mean the business of feeding animals and the sale

business shal~ be deemed to mean the manuracturing of paint,
varnish. lacquer, or other kindred product.
Oil Refin.ries and Oil Storage Buftin.ee. 011 r.-
fineries and oil storage bus1ness shall be deemed to mean an
.stabliehm.nt or plant for the distillation or ref1ning of
oil, crude petroleum, or other products thereof, or the star-
age of' same.
Cemetery Business. Cemetery business ahall be deemed
to mean the bueiness. or the use of any property for the pur-
pose, of a. cemetery or cemeteries, or the establishing or dea.l-
ing in the Bale or disposition of crypts. vaults. burial lots,
parke, mausoleums. crematories or cOlumbariums. or any other
business in connection with the disposition of the bodies of
deceased persons.
Ketal Sunk Business. ~tal junk tusiness sha11 be
deemed to mean the business of 4e&ling in, selling, or buying
for re-sale, junk or scrap' metal- or second hand metal of a.ll
kinds.
Section 3: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm
or corporation, either as OWner, agent, emp1oyee. or otherwise.
to establish, conduct or maintain, or cause or permit to be es-
tablished, conducted or maintained, any s1aughter house busi-
ness or packing house business within the city of Vernon except

Section 14: Any person. firm or corporation violating
any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be de~ed guilty
of & misdemeanor. and, upon conviction thereof, shall be
punishable by a fin. of not to .xce.d Three Hundred (1300.00)
Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail of the oity of
Vernon, or in the County Jail of the County of LOB Angeles,
for a p.riod of time not to .xa.ed three (3) months, or by both
such fine and imprisonment. Each of such persons, firms or
corporations sha~l be d.emed gui~t7 of a separate offensa for
each twenty-four houre dun'ing which such vio1.ation is permitted
to exi.t.
