ORDINANCE NO. 495
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CI'l'Y OF VERNON GRAN1'ING CONSENT TO THE
COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES '1'0 HIPROVE WASHINGTON STREET AND
WASHINGTON BOULEVARD WITHIN THD: CITY OF VERNON, AND THAT
TIlEREAB'TEH THE SAME SHALL BECOME A COUNTY HIGHWAY WITH
RESPECT TO ITS CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, I~PROVEMENT AND
REPAIR.
THE CITY COUNCIL or THE CB'Y OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLI,OWS:
THAT WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Los Angeles, by resolution duly edopted by a four-fifths
vote of jts members, declared that portion of Washington
Street and Washington Boulevard within the city of Vernon to
be a C01.Ulty hil!hway; and
W1lliREAS, the Board of Supervisol'S of said Count~;- of
Los Angeles has requested the consent of the City of Vernon
to carry out the program of declaring that portion of WasL1ngton
street and Washineton Boulevard, in the city of Vernon, a
part of the county highway system, and that thereafter the cost
of said highway witb respec.t to its construction, maintenance,
improvement and repair and all appurtenant work in the Im-
provement and maintenance or the unde~pB.BS existing upon Wash-
ington Street and Washington Boulevard between Downey Road and
a point approximately 1700 feet easterly thereof, within the
City of Vernon, shall be borne wholly by said County of Los
Angelesj
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Vernon
doe~ resolve as follows:
SectJon 1: That the consent 01' the City of Vernon is
hereby given to the County o~ Los Angelos to declare all that
portion or Washington Street and Washington Boulevard within
the city limits of the City of Vernon to be a part of the system
of highways in said County.
Section 2: That upon the taking effect of this ordinance

the cost of sald highway with respect to its construction,
maintenance, improvement and repair and all appurtenant work
in the improvement and maintenance of the underpass existing
upon Wa8hlngton Street and Washington Boulevard between Downey
Road and a point approximately 1700 feet easterly thereo~1
within the City of Vernon, shall be borne wholly by said County
and will make amole provision each year for such maintenance,
of Los Angeles~n the manner as provided by Sections 1700 to
1702, lnclusive, Chapter 29, Statutes of 1935;
Section 3: That the City Clerk shall certify to the

10 passage of this Ordinance and shall poat same, or cause same
11 to be posted, 1n three of the moat public places in said City,
12 to-wit: the northwest corner of 38th Street and santa Fe
13 Avenue; the northwest corner of 37th Street and Santa Fe
14 Avenue; and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City
15 Hall of the City of Vernon, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue,
16 in said City; that this Ordinance shall be in fUll force and
17 effeot from and after the date of posting.
