ORDINANCE NO. 523
3 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON PROHIBITING THE CAREYING ON
OF THE BUSINESS OF SELLING LIVESTOCK, WHOLESALE OR RETAIL, BY
4 AtTCTION OR O'I'HERWISE, IN rrHE CITY OF VERNON, EXCEPT IN ~ONES
:;W. 1 and NO.2, OF SAID CITY.

6 THE CI'lT'"f COUNCIL OF TIm CITY OF VERNON DOES OEDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
7 Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm
8 or corporation either as owner, agent, employee, or otherwise,
9 to conduct or carryon the business of selling livestock, whole-
10 sale or retail, by auctioning said livestock, or otherwise, ex-
11 cept in Zones No.1 and No.2 of said City, as set forth and
12 described in Ordinance No. 481, as amended by Ordinances No.
13 483 and 516, of said City.
14 Section 2: Any person, firm or corporation violating
15 any provision of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
16 demeanor, and, upon conviction therefor, shall be punishable by
17 a fine not to exceed Three Hundred Dollars (0300.00), or by
18 imprisonment in the City Jail of the City of Vernon, or in the
19 County Jail of the County of LQs Angeles, for a period of time
20 not to exceed three (3) months, or by both such fine and im-

21 prisorunent. Each of such persons, firms or corporations shall

be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each twenty-four (24)
hours during which such violation is permitted to exist.
Section 3: All Ordinances or parts of ordinances of

the City of Vernon in conflict with any part of this ordinance
is hereby repealed.
Section 4: There being no newspaper of general cir-

culation printed, published and circulated in the City of Vernon,
the City Clerk is hereby directed to certify to the passage of
this Ordinance, and shall post same, or cause 88.1:'1e to be posted

in three of the most public places in said City, to-wit:
the northwest corner of 38th street and Santa Fe Avenue; the

bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of the City of
Vernon, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, in said City; that
this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect fro:m and after
thirty (30) days from the date of posting.

do hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance was duly and
regularly introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council
of the City of Vernon held on the 20th day of December, 1938,
and thereafter funally adopted at a regular meeting of said City
Council held on the 3rd day of January, 1939, by the following
vote:
