THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

That Ordinance No.598 be amended by adding thereto
Section 25.11 to read as follows:
SECTION 25.11 COIN VENDING AMUSEMENT, SKILL OR SERVICE
MACHINES OR DEVICES.
"Every person engaged in the business of operating coin

vending, amusement, skill or service machines or devices shall
pay a license fee to the City of Vernon, as follows:
Section 1: "For every such machine operated within the

City of Vernon for the purpose of furnishing amusement, testing
the skill of any person or supplying a contest to any person, the
sum of $25 per year or any portion thereof for each machine or
device. The foregoing shall apply to, without being limited to,

coin-operated music machines or devices.
Section 2: "For every such cigarette vending machine
operated within the City of Vernon, t~e sum of $7.50 per year

or any portion thereof for each machine or device.
Section 3: "For every such machine operated within the
25
City of Vernon for the purpose of vending merchandise, where no
skill or amusement is involved, the following license fees shall
apply:
1 to 5 cents operated $2 per year or any portion
thereof for each machine
or device.
5 cents or over operated - $6 per year or any portion
thereof for each machine
or device.

Section 4: "No person, firm or corporation shall maintain

3 any coin vendin&amusement, skill or service machine or device
.
4 within the City of Vernon without maintaining thereon at all
5 times, in a consplcuous place, a stamp or label or certificate
6 of license which shallbe issued and supplied by the City Clerk
7 upon payment of the above license fee, which stamp or label or
8 certificate shall indicate the number of said license, together
9 with the date of expiration thereof.

Section 5: "In the event any duly qualified officer of
11 the City of Vernon finds any such machine or device being
12 maintained in the City of Vernon without such stamp or label
13 thereon or without such label indicating the facts as above
14 provided, it shall be his duty to seal the same, such seal to
15 contain a notice to the effect that it shall be unlawful for
16 my person to operate said machine without first having complied
17 with the license requirements of this ordinance. Such notice
18 shall not be removed except by an authorized representative of
19 the City Clerk's department or the Police Department of the
20 City of Vernon, nor until such time as the machine or device
21
is properly licensed. Every owner or operator, or other person

22 i who, after such notice or attachment of such seal, uses or
23

operates such machine, device, apparatus or equipment before
the same is licensed as hereinroove set forth, or who defaces,
25
destroys or removes any such notice or seal without authority
from the City Clerk or Police Department of the City of Vernon,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor."
Section 6: No license for any vending machine shall be
issued until application therefor has been made to the City
Council upon such form, and the giving of such information,
as the City Council may require, accompanied by the license

Section 7: Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed
4 as affecting or limiting the effect of Ordinance No.273 of the
5 City of Vernon.

Section 8. There being no newspaper printed, published
7 and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby
8 directed to certify to the passage of this ordinance and shall
9 post the same or cause the same to be posted in three of the
10 most public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: The north-
11 west corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, the northwest
12 corner of 37th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, and the Bulletin
13 Board in the lobby of the City Hall of Vernon, located at 4305
14 Santa Fe Avenue, and that immediately upon the passage and
15 posting thereof this ordinance shall be in full force and effect.
