4 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON ESTABLISHING 35 MILES PER
HOUR PRII~ FACIE SPEED LIMIT ON ALAMEDA STREET BETWEEN 25TH
5 STREET AND SLAUSON AVENUE IN THE CITY OF VERNON.
6 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

8 WHEREAS, the City of Vernon is advised that the
9 City of Los Angeles has established a 35 mile per hour speed
10 limit on the portion of Alameda Street between 25th Street
11 and Slauson Avenue lying in the City of Los Angeles; and
12 WHEREAS, Ernest Giles, Chief of Police of the City
13 of Vernon has recommended that 35 mile per hour speed limit
14 be established on Alameda Street between 25th Street and Slauson
15 Avenue in the City of Vernon; and
16 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vernon be-
18 the orderly movement of traffic;
17 lieves that said speed limit will tend to promote safety and
19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED:

Section 1:
That the prima facie speed limit on
21 Alameda Street between 25th Street and Slauson Avenue in the

22 City of Vernon is established at 35 miles per hour.

Section 2:
There being no newspaper printed, pub-
lished and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk
is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance
and shall post same, or cause same to be posted, in three of
the most public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: The
northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the
northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and
on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of the City
of Vernon, located at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in the City of

Enclosed herewith is a copy of Ordinance
No. 102,387, which establishes a 35 mile per hour
speed limit on the westerly roadway of Alameda
Street between East 25th Street and Slauson Avenue.
This ordinance was passed by the City Council on
November 5, 1953, approved by the Mayor on November
10, 1953, and will become effective on December 25,
1953.

In re: Speed Limit on Alameda Street
between 25th Street and Slauson
Avenue, in the City of Vernon
Gentlemen:
The matter of establishing a 35 mile per
hour speed lhllit on Alameda Street in the City of
Vernon has been under consideration and investiga-
tion for some time. The City of Los Angeles has
established a 35 mile per hour speed limit on the
westerly portion of Alameda Street in the City of
Los Angeles.
A 35 mile per hour speed limit on Alameda
Street in the City of Vernon would be a regulation
of speed in accordance with the physical characteris-
tics and mode of travel on Alameda. I therefore
recommend that the City Council of the City of Vernon
establish a 35 mile per hour speed limit on Alameda
Street between 25th Street and Slauson Avenue in the
City of Vernon.
