ORDINANCE NO. 671

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON REGULATING THE LOCATION AND
SUPERVISION OF CIGARETTE VENDING MACHINES IN THE CITY OF VERNON.

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council
of the City of Vernon that cigarette vending machines are often
located where their use can not be supervised by the person or

persons maintaining said vending machines; and
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council
that persons under the age of eighteen (18) years often purchase
cigarettes from machines located in a public place.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Vernon
does ordain as follows:
Section 1:
The locating of a cigarette vending machine

in a public place in the City of Vernon is hereby expressly
prohibited, except that a cigarette vending machine may be located
in a public place in the City of Vernon if at all times where so
located said vending machine is under the supervision of an adult
person, who is vested with authority to and prevents the use of
said cigarette vending machine by persons under the age of eighteen
(18) yearso
Section 2:
Every person violating any of the provisions
of this Ordinance is guilty of a misdemeanor and punishable by a
fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($5'00.00), or by im-
prisonment in the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles or in
the City Jail of the City of Vernon, as the committing magistrate
may direct, for not more than six (6) months, or by both such fine
and imprisonment in the discretion of the Court.
Section 3:
Each day said cigarette vending machine is
operated in violation of this Ordinance is declared to be a
separate misdemeanor and punishable as set forth in Section 2
hereof.

Section 4: There being no newspaper printed, published
2 and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk is hereby
3 directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall
4 post same, or cause same to be posted, in three of the most
5 public places in the City of Vernon, to wit: The northwest
6 corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue; the northeast corner
7 of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the bulletin
8 board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City, located at
9 4305 Santa Fe Avenue, all in the City of Vernon; that this Ordin-
10 ance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and
