ORDINANCE NO. 689
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON ESTABLISHING PROCEDURE
FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY IN THE POSSESSION OF
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF VERNON.

5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1:
That unclaimed property coming into the
7 possession of the Police Department of the City of Vernon shall be held in
8 its custody for a period of six months. The Police Department shall
9 exercise due care in the preservation of said property. and shall deliver
10 up the same to any person identifying himself as the owner thereof to the
11 satisfaction of the Chief of Police of the City of Vernon.

SECTION 2:
After a period of six months has elapsed from
13 the time that the Police Department came into possession of said property,
14 and no person having identified himself as the owner thereof. the Chief of
15 Police may destroy such property as guns, knives, clubs. saps or any
16 property deemed unsalable or liable to cause bodily harm in the hands of
17 irresponsible persons. All other property shall be sold at public auction.
18 SECTION 3: At lease five days prior to auctioning any
19
property the Chief of Police shall cause to be published in a newspaper of
20
general circulation in the County of Los Angeles a notice of suc~ auction
21
giving the date. time and place of said auction sale.

SECTION 4:
There being no newspaper of general circula-

tion printed, published and circulated in the City of Vernon, the City Clerk
is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance. and shall
post same. or cause same to be posted. in three of the most public places
in said City, to wit: The northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe
Avenue; the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard;
and on the bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City. located
at 4305 Santa Fe Avenue. all in the City of Vernon. Los Angeles County,
California.

This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30)
days from and after the date of posting.

truck tires, wheels, and other miscellaneous items along with
several bicycles and parts of bicycles. All of this material

months. Some of this property has been confiscated from
prisoners, and other items are found property whose true owner
cannot be located.
It is requested that the Police Department be given
permission to dispose of these items in the proper manner.
