5 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VERNON DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOW, :
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF VERNON PROVIDING FOR THE FEEDING
OF PERSONS HELD IN CARE OF THE VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT
AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 33 OF SAID CITY.

SECTION 1:
Persons in the care of the Police Department
7 of the City of Vernon as prisoners or otherwise. shall be provided with
8 sufficient plain and wholesome food of such variety as may be most conducive
9 to good health. in such amount and at such times as the general welfare
11
10 of said persons will be best served.
SECTION 2:
Ordinance No. 33 of the City of Vernon is
13
12 hereby repealed.
SECTION :3:
There being no newspaper of general circula-
14 tion printed. published and circulated in the City of Vernon. the City Clerk
15 is hereby directed to certify to the passage of this Ordinance. and shall post
16 same, or cause same to be posted. in three of the most public places in
17 said City. to wit: The northwest corner of 38th Street and Santa Fe Avenue;
18 the northeast corner of Leonis Boulevard and Pacific Boulevard; and on the
19 bulletin board in the lobby of the City Hall of said City, located at 4305 Santa
20 Fe Avenue. all in the City of Vernon. Los Angeles County. California.
21 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
22 thirty (30) days from and after the date of posting.

Your Honorable Body:
It is requested that City Ordinance #33 be amended
to al10H the Police Department to expend not more than;,~1.50
per day for pl~pose of feeding a prisoner confined in the
City Jail.
Ordinance #33 has been in effect for several years
and it only allows the department .500 per day for each prisoner.
We are required by regulations to feed each non
working prisoner two meals per day, and each 1rwrking prisoner
three meals per day. However, we do not as a practice work the
prisoners, and it has been found that a reasonable breakfast
an.d supper can be obtained for approximately .710 per meal.
Your consideration in this matter will be greatly
appreciated.
